K&N Oil Filter

Are the K&N oil filters anything special? are they worth the extra 2 bucks? I have just been running a federated, which is made by purolator i believe. i think purolator manufactures the motorcraft filters. i did a search, but couldnt find anything on this one. thanx

Re: K&N Oil Filter

When looking at filters, see if you can find out how much and what size particulates get filtered out. Example, 97% at 10 microns. Then compare.

Flow rate is another thing to look at too...

Re: K&N Oil Filter

I spend extra money on the Mobil 1 filters as they have better specs than the motorcraft ones. I can't find my data on the specifics anymore so sorry I don't have them to share.

IMHO one of the best oil filters out there for our trucks is the Fleetguard with the Stratopore filter media.

See This Thread for more info.

LF3374 is the normal-sized one.
LF3974 is the larger one.

Read the whole thread and decide which one to you use. AFIK they both use the Stratopore media.

I noticed a big difference when using the K@N oil filter in my dodge. I think i may give it a try with my PSD.

What did you see that was different? I stopped at Kragen Auto today on my way to wally world (for oil and filter) and I saw the K&N filter on the shelf...they had one in stock for me but I figured it was just an over priced waste..tell me why its better and maybe ill give it a shot.

Thanks,
Casey

Re: K&N Oil Filter

I noticed the oil stayed a lot cleaner for a lot longer. And with my dodge i noticed when my oil started to get old on a regular filter, my oil pressure started to fluctuate. With the K&N the oil pressure stayed the same, where the needle was pointing straight up.

Re: K&N Oil Filter

PSD mobil 1 filter = M1-601

I get them at Auto-Zone.

Tim

Here is a description from their web site:

Does ExxonMobil make oil filters for use with Mobil 1?

ExxonMobil does offer a very high-quality oil filter that can be used with any motor oil, but it is an especially appropriate companion to Mobil 1. Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filters contain synthetic fibers instead of the typical cellulose filter media. With a 99.2 percent efficiency rating (under SAE J1858 Multi-Pass Efficiency Test), the Mobil 1 filter is much more efficient than a typical oil filter, removing more particles per pass through the filter. In addition, the synthetic fibers in the Mobil 1 filter have less resistance to oil flow, reducing the potential for the filter to restrict the flow of oil to your engine.
