LED install to monitor TC lock....

Would be interesting to be able to visually monitor exactly when the torque converter locks and unlocks . Anyone already done this? The converter is locked electronically isn't it? An led light could be wired in someway couldn't it? I'm a real maroon when it comes to r&d on electronics, so that why I depend on the good folks around here Is this doable?

Jim
It is doable and has been done before. The computer applies a ground to lock the torque converter.. If you were to put a LED inline between the purple/yellow TC wire and a switched power supply the lite would come on only when the converter is locked.

If you can find some of the threads about the TC lock switch they will help you to find the purple/yellow TC wire. I had some saved but lost them when they were archived.

Re: LED install to monitor TC lock....

Hey thanks Blue, I had seen the t/c lockup switches instructions here , and your info confirms that purple/yellow tracer wire is the one to work with. These trannys have so many variables on shifting that I thought a visual reference to lockup will be a good thing. In my mind I don't think this lockup switch is a good idea, I want the pcm to determine when and if the tc locks, but I would like to know under different conditions exactly when it calls for the lock. Gonna gather up some parts and pieces and see if I can make it work....

On a side note: Rodney,as great as you are about providing links to all of us, this problem with not getting into the recently archived threads must be driving you BONKERS!! I feel your pain all the way thru my monitor! Heh-Heh

Re: LED install to monitor TC lock....

Jim
I mounted two Radio Shack LED's in the removable panel below the a/c vent on the right of the steering wheel RED for the glowplugs and GREEN for the TC Lock
Only problem was I did it with the truck in park. When the shift lever is pulled down into drive the leds are covered by the lever and knob.Thats works out fine for the GP LED but it discouraged me enough that I didnt bother to hook up the one for the TC. Originally I was going to put in a TC lock switch but now with the TDE1 chip that over rides the NAW4 I dont need it.

Hey Threestar...

I have exactly what you are wanting...I got the instructions from this site... TC Lockup Mod W/LED's
I installed the switch and LED's in the door where my power window controller is...

Good luck,

TFB
