For those of you that have a detroit locker in your truck, or have more experience than I do with one, What kind of drawbacks have you seen with one in a rig that is used to tow most of it's life. I have one in my f150, traction is great and you know it's going to work(no wires or hoses to worry about), but the driveshaft slop that comes along with it, I don't want in my comfy diesel tow rig. I believe the one in my f150 is a soft-locker as well.

IMO if ya tow HEAVY don't get a Detroit. You will eat tires quicker and if you drive in snow-ice I'd get a air locker if availible or a good posi.

Thats kind of what I was thinking. They don't make an electrac for the 10.25 yet do they? I thought I read somthing on here about being able to utilize the 10.5 stuff as well. Do any of you have any info on that? What about a trac-tech limited slip?
I am near positive ARB makes air lockers for front and rear OBS trucks. They may have electric lockers available now.

I like the detroit in my '01, it behaves well. The new style are better than the old ones, quieter too. Not real wild about the internal slack in the carrier when shifting from forward to reverse but that is a very small quirk, at least you can say goodbye to one-wheel peel
i got factory psoi-lock and its great. both tires spin no matter what. and turnin is not sacrificed. i'd get the posi-lok if i was you... gibson

I have Detroit Lockers front and rear. LOVE them. Especially when pulling my 15,000 pound trailer through the sand. Ya it can get tricky in icey conditions. But it can be controlled with some finese of the throttle.

How much slop is in the driveshaft. That's the one thing I don't like about in my f150, everytime your on and off the gas, thunk. Otherwise it has performed flawlessly. You always know both tires are going to turn. I also thought is was very predictable even with a little over 12,000 in tow.

I have no slop. If you have slop I would think your ring & pinion was not set up correctly.

I run a detroit locker in my mustang And its just the nature of the beast with the slop, they are rough in a small high powered car and you have to be very carefull when you get caught in the rain with it but they dont break very tough unit.thats what they run in nascar.
