Looking to do a D60 swap on my 96 OBS

If someone could give me a list of what year trucks have the axles that will bolt to our trucks and work with our current yokes off the old 250 axles.

i plan on swapping if i can find a front d-60 im sure ill also need a rear since my truck has 3:55 gears and most f-350 are 4:10

so ill need matches that have the same tooth style our front and rear yokes use. or just plane old have the same yokes.

thanks guys/gals

Dana 60 from any 1980-1997 Ford F-350 is a direct bolt in.

i dont think the 1980-87 works. Look for a 1989-1997. I found a 1989 axle that worked great! Something else to know is that the early axles were kingpin axles and the later axles 1991-1997 (i think) were ball joint axles. I wanted a kingpin axle because they are more bada$$. I could be wrong, but i dont think a 1980-1987 will work. THis is a great swap. Mine has been done for 2 years. My tires wear better and the truck looks great!

Depends on what you want, to keep your 3.55's, or go with the 4.10's.

If you get the proper gearset, the pinion outer end will be the same, and you'll just re-use the yoke off the dana 60 axle you find. Keep an eye on ebay, i got my 3.55 gearset for $20, and while it wasn't new, was in excellent shape.

If you change your rear ratio to 4.10, then same deal, proper gear set pinion outside end will accept your yoke fine.

Only other issue is finding the yoke for the transfer case side if your truck has the BW 44-07 transfer case, and you want to use a double cardan driveshaft in the front. They seem to be rare, but are available. I recently saw where you might have to call the Spicer factory directly, as they have them, but for some reason the rest of the world thinks they are obsolete and unavailable.

BTW - how did you ever get a crew cab long box in the F250 flavor? I was under the impression short box was the only option for F250's?

Why wouldn't the 80-87 not work? Please tell me since it is the same frame, same differential, same spring configuration, same hangers, perch width, etc... Not only will they work, I have done it on more than one occasion. You can also use earlier year axles however it would require using the 2.5" width springs and hangers instead of the 3" springs found in the 80 and up trucks.

my old boss has a 96 obs crew cab lb diesel and mine is also and ive seen many around....maybe it was just more of a popularity item up here in the 95% farming states where farmers and contractors want longer boxes and larger cabs then regular cabs for work trucks...

im waiting though to snag a 4door lb one of these days gas or diesel and swap my driveline in granted my truck is relatively 99% rust free body wise.

and 3:55 has a different yoke attachment then a 4:10 axle...did not know that. wish i could just swap in an axle outa one of my buddys rotting 90s model dodge diesels lol. but atleast one day i might snag a cummins 12v for a swap in mine...the powerstrokes great but 1000$ just to get a 100hp increase is a little rediculus ;> but i would choose fords body/rear end and more modern cab and after engine driveline any day.
