Looking for drop in motor

Does anyone have any experience with buying drop in motors and does anyone know reputable places to buy them from.

Just got a flyer from RJ Performance today for new surplus motors. Might want to check them out.

Price looks a little tall to me. A friend of mine has a '94 PSD (my old truck). Back in 2000 the turbo puked on the interstate and wiped out the engine. He got two of the local ford dealers in a bidding war, and he won out with a factory drop-in crate engine for $5,500.

Agreed, as I mentioned I have no idea if they are a reputable outfit or not. It is just a source I keep in my bookmarks...........however, the price does include shipping and with fuel prices where they are at now and the weight of a PSD......... that is a factor to keep in mind.

Re: Looking for drop in motor

So far my dealer is quoting me $8134.23 + $3200 core + tax. Searching the internet I have found anywhere between $5900 - $7600 + core. I know that the dealer will be dealing with motorcraft and the others are rebuilt through thier suppliers. Just looking for as much info as I can get before I make my decision.

You need to call a couple of different dealers and get the bidding war started. The dealers in your area have as large a margin to play with as any other dealer, it's just a matter of getting the first one to drop his price and go from there. You obviously have internet access - search ford dealers online and email, or call them on their toll free numbers and get some prices. Get your lowest price and your local dealer will most likely match, or beat it.

BTW - what's wrong with your engine? For the money you are talking about, I would go to a machine shop and have mine rebuilt, and done right, if your core is rebuildable.

Call Greg Budwine at Performance Plus in CO Springs 719-574-7801. He took care of (Shoebear?) when his motor was dusted.

Re: Looking for drop in motor

It was TCH777 that got the motor installed by Greg. He was happy with how the deal worked out too as I recall. The other person I would shoot a pm to is RSP and tell him what you are looking for. He changed out a motor for Dale I.
