magnet tranny cooling fins

What do ya'll think of this idea. Simply stick some magnets 1/2" x 1" x 12" on the outside of the transmission pan running front to back just like a cooling fin. Seems like the surface area and mass would provide even more cooling than an aftermarket pan with built in fins. Additionally they might catch more metal in the bottom of the pan than the magnet that is inside does.
Only negative I can think of is that if one falls off any metal particles it was holding put might start circulating all at once potentially being an issue.
Ive got an aftermarket cooler but this seems like a real cheap add on mod. I don't know where you would get the magnets but I can't imagine them being that much $. A quick look around the net and it looks like you can make a magnet out of any metal by rubbing it against a magnet.
Even if the benefit is a negligable temp drop the mod cost is also negligable.

Re: magnet tranny cooling fins

I think that's one vote thinking its a reasonable idea.
Anyone have any experience making their own magnets out of regular steel? Or cheap sources for buying them?
