Manual Trans Problems

I've been told I need a tranny rebuild on my 97 F250. I was thinking of going with an aftermarket--heavy duty trans that would be able to handle any horsepower upgrades that I may do in the future, or can the existing tranny be rebuilt to handle more horsepower? Any suggestions?

Tranny isnt going to be your weak link, look into upgrading the clutch, over 375 hp I'd start thinking feramic or even ceramic, just what I've already experienced. Look at South Bend .com

DID YOU READ HIS SIG? He as a SBC.

There are no upgrades except for a short shifter for the ZF's. BUT, I have done an informal pole over the years and have yet tor hear of a broken one except sledpullers.

Sorry TRASH MECHANIC, I dont read all the sigs. may mistake, as for your pole, I must have missed it as well! And thats too bad, cuz I could have been the one guy to be on the broken ZF end of the pole. Cleaned off 4 teeth from 5th gear crossing what I (now )believe to be the roughest R R crossing in the US. Pulling 15k warrior with a 450 hp clutch from SBC. Made it home, removed, tore down, replaced, and installed myself in a week, had to go to work 9-5 mon thru friday.

Not sure how the ZF-5 compares to the ZF-6, but the ZF-6 is good for 800+ hp. Bean runs one in his truck (about 800hp), and his only problem was breaking the output shaft once.
