Mod Limits

I want to buy a set of injectors in the near future, and I am debating on what injectors to buy. I either want to go with a stage 1 (160 cc) or stage 2 (160 cc edm'd), and I am curious as to how far I can go with what I am willing to do. I would not be against going to big oil if I have to, or a bigger turbo, but I think my limiting factor is going to be the stock 99 intercooler. There is NO way I can go to a bigger intercooler, so I don't want to go with a bigger injector than I need. I also don't think I can go any bigger than a 3 1/2 inch down pipe. I don't want to use any drugs on it. What do you guys think?
Thanks for the help!
Tim

Re: Mod Limits

Dude, you still have the coolest truck in the world. I love that thing!!

That being said (again), you can get away without big oil on both, but it would be benificial. I am just running an SD pump on the Stage I's and it made a load of difference over the stock pump. You could still run it on the II's but they will definitely be happier with oil.

I think the SD cooler will be just fine, just look at tubzz's signature.

The turbo, IMHO, will want to be upgraded either way. I don't have my intercooler in yet and I am seeing 36psi if I try. I will probably expect closer to 30 after the intercooler is in, and that is still more than I am comfortable with, since I do not plan to upgrade my turbo and intend on keeping it alive as long as possible.

Stage I's you'll be just fine with your stock turbo and HPOP, but at least I'd do the SD pump.

IMHO from all I've gathered, to better support the Stage II's will involve more fuel, oil (definitely will want at least the SD HPOP), and a turbo, then that will probably give means for head studs.

Those are my concerns personally about the II's over Stage I. I still hope to get them someday and just see what I can do with the stock turbo, fuel and my current oil, as I do not plan to upgrade them (fuel maybe).

FWIW, the Stage I injectors with programming are already an unreal difference over stock. I know you will be happy there. But, or so I hear, the II's are that difference all over again.

Re: Mod Limits

I think your 99 i/c will work with about whatever you want to do. Tubzz has stage 3 injectors with the Stealth pump with a Super Duty i/c. I put BDP stage 1's in my truck and the stock turbo lasted 4 months, but it had 140,000 on it when the injectors were installed. With the stock HPOP I could only stay in the throttle for about 4 seconds till I got a CEL. But now I have a H2E turbo,BTS dual HPOP, and BDP stage 1's and everyhting is working well together.

Re: Mod Limits

mod limits all depend on you wallit i guess.
if your not against a bigger turbo and maybe big oil.i would do the stage2's. you won't be disapointed either way and the SD ic will be fine.i have a 6.0 IC in the kitchen to put in mine not forsure i need it but it was cheap so why not.
and that is a very sweet truck you have.

Re: Mod Limits

Thanks for the compliments, guys; I appreciate it a lot.
I guess to clarify the question a little bit, will the 99 ic flow enough air to clean up the Stage 2's? The head stud comment brings to mind another question. Has anyone ever tried to change to head studs without removing the heads? Could it be done one bolt at a time, without causing the head gasket to leak? Just a thought.
Thanks for the help.
Tim

You'll want to talk to Travis(MoreMPH) about that, I believe he has done it.
