Hey Guys,
I have a 97' F350. Currently, the only uprages I have are a deep sump tranny pan, and a set of stacks. It has a foot of lift, and with 4:10 gears, doesn't pull the 39.5"s very well. The 4:10s are being swapped out soon for either 4:88's of 5:13's. Anyway, I was wondering what the BEST combo of aftermarket parts will produce the most horsepower on this motor. I do not tow with the truck. Also, I have had alot of tranny problems and have just rebuilt the factory E40D. Who makes the best tranny upgrade to help deal with power and big tires? So many companies make upgrades, but some are in the form of hardware, and some are software. Bullydog vs. Banks for example. Help me out! Thanks guys.
-Drew
p.s. the truck has 59,000 ori. miles on it if that helps.
Also, after my $1500 bucks is used up....what would be next in line for upgrades? Upon research, i have heard some good and bad things about mainstream manufacturrs. What do you guys suggest?
My first recomendation is to take a DAY and read everything on the forum. Once you do this 90% of your questions will be answered Short answer...spend that $1500 at Tymar...intake, exhaust, and then a 3 guage set...trans, egt and boost. With the $$ you have left get a Tony wildman chip. Then start saving your$$$ for a BTS and some of Beans injectors.
Do NOT waste your money with Banks or that other idiot.
Welcome aboard!
Cary

Then start saving about 1500 for a set of injectors or 300 for the do it yourself kit with injectors (with they had that when I bought injectors)

I am done with AMSOIL I just replaced a rear axle seal because of that crap.
I would sell the deep trans pan and add that to the mod money. It doesn't work as they claim. A stock 4R100 pan with drain plug and a good 7.3L or V-10 Super Duty trans cooler is all that is needed.
Complete exhaust
gut ebpv
updated ford intake blk boot
Tymar intake
Tony Wildman chip

i read for about 8 hours yesterday, however which company to choose still remains up in the air. I already have an exhaust btw. are tymar and wildman one in the same? i got a little lost there. Is a "big oil" referring to a turbo. Also, is the combination of a chip, intake, exhaust, downpipe, cat eliminate, injectors and a larger turbo a safe combination assuming i am conservitive with power gains (it is a daily driver) I have heard about these "gremlins" that alot of people have to work out. What do you recommend for a tranny upgrade? i already have a tranny cooler and a deepsump pan.

Call Dale @ Tymar. Just make sure you....have an hour to spend being "educated".

I'm in the middle of upgrading my truck myself, so I've spent a lot of time trying to sort out what to do. One of the first things to do is make sure you have good air intake into the engine. Tymar sells an air intake system with a big open filter, easy to install. $150 delivered with a spare filter. Also, I upgraded the factory hose that leads into the turbo (old original design is prone to crack). $90.
Then take care of the exhaust leaving then engine. A DPPI downpipe, stainless, set me back around $150. While I had the exhaust apart, I gutted the EBPV ($1 for a 3/4 inch freeze plug) and I "inspected" the insides of the catalytic convertor (no cost).
I shimmed the fuel pressure regulator a long time ago, all you need is a common .177 BB like you shoot in a BB gun. Free.
Truck now runs great, much better than stock. Next up will be a set of gauges--a EGT pyrometer will monitor the exhaust gas temperature, vital for a motor that will see a lot of work (like towing a trailer). $150 for EGT, add another $50 for a boost pressure gauge and another $75 or so for a gauge mount.
This is where the low-cost mods stop, and the big-buck mods begin. A chip, around $400 or so, will add a little more power to a stock engine. Wildman has a very popular chip. For even more power, the next step would be bigger fuel injectors, anywhere from $900 upwards, depending on how radical you get. For the $900 injectors and $400 chip, I believe the engine will be in the range of 325 hp or more. (The injectors need the hotter chip so the two mods come together) Get too radical, the engine's oil supply can't drive the injectors, then you need a bigger oil pump (the "big oil" you mentioned) Somewhere after this point comes a better turbo (big bucks), and an intercooler. Get much more past this, then the engine's internals may need beefing up (bigger bucks).
Hope this helps.

If your truck truly has 59k miles if/when you do injectors DO NOT swap them with another set just have yours modified and returned to you.

Drew, just my .2 on the gears: 5.13s will prob be a little too low if you do some highway cruising.I'm running 38s w/4.88s and I wouldn't want to be any lower. Also the faster the motor turns the faster the driveshaft turns and w/12" of lift it will bring out the vibes if your u-joint angles aren't dead on.
Get some pics up,like to see it.

yeah i actually do some highway cruising......with 4:88's and 39.5"s ....although not the smoothest ride, will i still be able to cruise along at 75? Even tho eventually i want a set of injectors, larger turbo and a big oil.....how should the 7.3 pull these 39.5"s with the filter, downpipe, cat delete and chip? Before i do any work with a turbo or injectors what should i expect for a horsepower gain with the chip on the highest "safe" setting on a relitively stock motor.
