We have a new to us 97 PSD that is hauling a horse trailer with a goose neck. My wife is the primary operator and she is saying it is lacking in power.. The last couple of months i've been reading all your posts and would like your opinions on my plan for more power.
I think I should do the following to help increase the power but keep it reasonable as the primary function is towing the trailer.
Gauges (Pyro, Boost, trans temp?)
intake (Tymar?)
Exhaust (Downpipe, no cat, new muffler back) please suggest supplier?
Chip 3+ position
Any idea on what HP #'s this combo might make?
Thanks for your help.

Call Dale @ Tymarperformance. He will help you out. All of that will make a big difference. A good trans kit and cooler is a must also. I pull about the same weight, it's really a load to pull. No matter what you do, it's not going to win any races. Put the horses on a diet and call Dale, you won't be sorry.

Your list of modifications looks pretty good...might add gutting the EBPV unless you plan to use it as an exhaust brake. What is your gear ratio? What size tires are you running? Like someone has indicated...don't forget your transmission. You might want to upgrade your torque converter and transmission along with your horsepower upgrades. I can't give you a horsepower figure...but with your suggestions you should notice the difference

RPM outlet has cheap exhaust- I think the 4" was $250 turbo back.

I have the E4OD transmission with 4:10 gears, and 215/85/16 tires. This makes for a slow ride on the highway.. Will move up to 235 or 255/85/16's.
Several of you mention that the transmission needs attention.. I have been told that the torque converter is makeing noise and will need replacing soon. (in prepurchase inspection)
What is the best T/C to use for heavy pulling? Also what type of valve body or do I just Redo/buy another trans.
Thanks,
Rich.

[/ QUOTE ] Which torque converter you end up with will depend a lot on the amount of horsepower your engine has/will have and how much you are towing. You might want to send NIT or Powerstroke2000 a PM and ask them for a reference to a good transmission shop in your area. I know they both had their transmissions rebuilt in the Vancouver, BC area and they are happy with theirs. Another good source of information is Dale at Tymar. He sells several torque converters and he will make recommendations based on your needs.

Just two comments:
Gauges: Yes to pyro and boost. If you have an auto definitely get the trans temp. You will be amazed at how quickly it can get hot...put a big tranny cooler in it immediately also.
Intake: Yes to the tymar.
