My 97 F250 with 280K was leaking fuel like mad this morning. I was just quoted $1400 to replace the fuel pump and bowl(water seperator-filter housing).
I've heard this stock system sucks, and was wondering if there are any better aftermarket systems that are cheaper or reasonably priced?
Please comment and post links.
I need this done in a timely matter(ie I can't freaking work without my truck!!!)

Yeah I would first pin point the leak THEN replace parts. If you are mechanically inclined at all these can be done yourself. Fuel pump will run you around 80-100 bucks and I have a spare fuel bowl I pulled from my truck that did not leak when I pulled it (I can fill it and let it sit to be sure of no leaks). PM me if interested.
Most garden-variety mechanics don't know much, if anything, about powerstrokes, hence the wild-assed-guess method of estimating repair costs. You'll get much better advice right here, and a better idea of what things oughta cost.
Have you found the source of the leak? Go to the $.25 carwash, apply tire cleaner or engine brite to entire engine, especially in valley under fuel canister, front of engine behind pulleys, and rear of engine from back of heads over bellhousing & trans. Let it soak in a bit, then rinse with high-pressure soap, NOT using the high-pressure trigger anywhere near wiring harness. Be sure to use the low-pressure soap in the valley. You can rinse again, but it's not necessary.
Get a very bright flashlight and a step to stand on, and once it's dry (a few minute's drive will do it) find the source of the leak. Common places are the fuel pump and its hoses (aft of and below the fuel canister; there's a weep hole in the bottom of the pump which begins to leak when the pump is about to die. If this is it, send me a PM with your email address & I'll send you Sam Miller's terrific play-by-play on how to change a fuel pump.
Rarely, but occasionally, the fuel canister will develop a leak in the bottom due to corrosion. The FPR bottom o-ring can fail, though this isn't that common, either. The short hose on the aft side of the FPR could be leaking. You should be able to find the source on a clean engine. Let us know and we'll show you the way, and you surely won't have to spend $1400 (unless one of those Tennessee horsepower brokers gets ahold of you )

They said the water seperator is leaking. It did have some deep pits I used some JB weld on about a year or two ago. I took a few pic's of the fuel bowl at that time in my PICS link
This is an old truck, 1997, 280K.
I just don't have the time to do it myself anymore. It's a work truck, and time off the road is $$ outa my pocket.
I bit the bullet, and said OK to the estimate. It inlcuded an oil change, fuel pump, water seperator cannister, new lines, and repairing both door handles. (They would only open from the outside!)
I wish I had time for other options, but I just don't have the time. I really wanted to improve the fuel system, get rid of the bowl, but I should have done my homework before this happened.
OH well.
Thanks again, always a great feeling to know that this place is around
