New Chip installed but "seat of the pants" feel about the same

I installed a 70hp chip to the computer today and when I took it out there wasn't any real feel like an afterburner kicking in. I didn't do any 0-70mph times prior, and without a chassis dyno how do I really tell if its working? And do I need to pull the PCM fuse (9?) to reset it before it will work?

Thanks
bb

Re: New Chip installed but "seat of the pants" feel about the same

Could be a couple of things...first of all, did you clean the contacts on the PCM board?? I pulled mine out of the truck and cleaned it....re-installed, and it STILL wasnt working...Had to clean it AGAIN, get it all back in and THEN it worked and WOW did it work.

I dont know what kind of chip you've got but whatever it is, if its a 70HP chip you should feel SOMETHING...

Click HERE For a chip install write up...It takes a little longer than just pluggin it in but I would bet that your problem is the contacts have that white film on em.

Re: New Chip installed but "seat of the pants" feel about the same

Cleaned off the board contacts with alcohol and swabs then dry cloth, sprayed electrical concact cleaner on the chip, used dielectric grease on the connection and seated the chip then duct taped in place to keep it from vibrating loose.

maybe I need to try it all again, but the contacts were shiny gold and clean.

I did the same the first time and yes they "looked" clean, but aparently I didnt get it ALL off...Some are more finicky than other it seems...Get a straight blade and scrape carefully...If that doesnt work I would say its the chip's fault...

You cleaned to much!

If you take off the silver, then the chip prolly isn't making contact, take it out of there now, without the key in.

If you know how to solder, you will need to build up the contacts on the pcm again. If your not good at soldering on a computer board, take it somewhere that can do it for you.

Re: New Chip installed but "seat of the pants" feel about the same

Maybe a stupid question....Did you put dielectric grease on the contacts themselves? Dielectric grease is an insulator, it's supposed to go around connections to seal water out, not on the contacts. Try without the grease...

Re: New Chip installed but "seat of the pants" feel about the same

no need for diaelectric grease. Just clean off the contacts real good and then go. I used a dremel tool with the metal cleaning wheel to clean mine.

I use a thin film of dielectric grease on my PCM contacts everytime a chip is installed. Yes, the grease is an insulator but the chip contacts cut through the grease and make contact with the PCM connector. The grease forms a seal around the chip to PCM contact to keep out moisture and air which slows corrosion significantly. I have had no chip contact failures since starting the contact greasing. Before I could expect a failure sometime between 6 months and a year after the chip was installed.

It may be the restricted intake and exhaust.
