Power Strokes 1994-1997 Upgrades and AftermarketUpgrading or adding OEM or aftermarket equipment to your 1994-1997 Ford F-Series with Power Stroke engine.
In the new trucks, not the E4OD. If you need a rebuilt trans, spend the money and get one of the "good" guys to do it. If you are in CA, John Woods in Holtville. John Woods has a triple disk for the E4OD I believe.

I been Going BAck ANd Forth, and Back and Forth on this subject as well, I have a 97 original 2wd converted to a 4wd, and the tranny has 130k on it. Still performing strong right now and I have been pulling a 13-15000 lbs with it (only duty it sees anymore as I ahve a work truck) for 2 years. with no issues. if and when the tranny goes I am thinking at this point it will be a stocker thrown in and ran for another 100k Just cant justify a $6000 transmission. for a 11 year old truck that only sees towing duty with only mods being intake and exhaust and no plans to ever drag or beef the motor. I will probably spring for a Torque convertor though
also found this website E4OD 4R100 Transmissions
Has anyone used his transmissions or rebuild kits? Gave me a quote of $1160 For transmission rebuild kit including: red eagle clutches, kolene steels, tugger shift kit, the severe duty triple disc with billet cover TC, and a transmission cooler.

If you get the $1160 rebuild kit, you still have to rebuild your trans yourself or pay to have somebody do it. Every rebuilt trans will require a simular rebuild kit that would cost about the same. You might as well figure that all rebuilt transmissions all have about, say, $1100 worth of parts in them. That said, my BTS was custom tuned for my truck by them re-drilling the holes in the plates to larger diameters, ect... Are you, or do you know someone, who is capable of rebuilding/tuning a transmission.
Next, I think what transmission you choose shoud be based on what your plans for your truck are.
If you plan on ever having anything over stock HP & TQ, I would deffinately ONLY get one of the "good guy's" transmissions. There are only a very few custom transmission builders that are religiously endorsed on here. Look at peoples sigs and see what most of the really hot trucks are running. Pick one of those brands. John Woods, Richter69, BTS... Somebody said John Woods was in your neck of the woods. I recommend that you call him and see about getting a trans from him. In any case, I would ONLY get a trans from one of the named builders on this site.
With my truck in sig, I destroyed a Ford reman'ed trans that was already in the truck when I got it (wasn't even really modified yet), next I killed a $2900 "Power Deamon" transmission that was SUPPOSED to have the extra clutches ect... but didn't - it lasted nine months (75% of mods complete). The Power Deamon was supposed to have a triple disc converter too, but they painted a stock converter and put it in instead. It had gotten so hot the paint had pealed off of it.
Now I have a BTS trans. Yes, it cost $3900 + tax. But Brian himself built it for MY truck. It has the extra clutches, ect... to hold the power, and, it was custom built/tuned/adjusted for MY truck, but, more importantly, it has a 2 year "if you break it, I'll give you another transmission" guarentee.
I started to buy a BTS trans instead of the Power Deamon one, but was too cheap to spend the extra $1000. That was a decision that I lived to regret very badly. Don't repeat my mistake - buy a "good" transmission to start with.
Just my $.02
Happy Modding!
Mark

For what it's worth do the kits you are looking at replace the stock gear sets? Check out the picks at the BTS website, and look at the 4 gear aluminum gear sets that come stock. If you are getting high performance klutches, shift kit ect...I would spend money on the gear sets.
Personally I found a reputable transmission shop locally, told him that I wanted a tougher tranny that stock, but that I had no intentions of making this a drag truck or a sled puller. I paid 2600 installed for a rebuild with all the updates, steel gear sets, tugger kit, billet TC, and stock klutches . It's no BTS, but Im sure I won't have any problems for a long time on a mostly stock truck.

Not wanting to hijack. I tried to rebuild my C6 in my '86 gasser and ended up paying $1700.00 to have it done over. you have to be O/R clean and use certain rags. the tranny shop said that was my ONLY mistake.. they said "I did a great job with the "rebuild" just used the wrong rags". I would have a reputable shop build it.

I bought a John Wood tranny for towing my fifth wheel and my 20ft gooseneck with wood to Vegas. 15-17K is what they each weigh individually. The John wood tranny has not missed a beat and that was 25,000 miles ago. Well worth the money and the trip to Holtville.
