oil analysis with bypass filter

back awhile ago i was following a post about the best diy bypass filter set up. most of the people contributing seemed concerned about getting as much soot as possible out of there oil. i ended up using as fleetguard lf 9691 combination filter for my primary and a fleetguard lf 777 as a bypass. after about 7500 miles of 50/50 expressway/city driving using exxon xd-3 dino oil i sent in an oil analysis which came back saying the oil was still good and i should resample at normal change interval. the oil sample only contained 2% soot which is well below any level that you have to worry about. i was just kind of wondering if anyone else using a bypass set up knew how well there oil and engine was doing with it.

Re: oil analysis with bypass filter

Hmmm...how well my engine is doing with my by-pass...I would think pretty well, as I too keep finding after an oil analysis that they tell me to continue on...and resample at the next interval!
I'm using the Amsoil version of which I've had on the truck for several years now. My first time around I ran my oil to 60K, and only changed it then because of an injector change (fuel getting into the oil).
I changed to a 5w - 30w Series 3000 Amsoil synthetic, and haven't yet sent in an oil analysis, but believe all is well.

Do yourself a favor and sample that 5w-30. Don't be surprised if you find IRON through the roof compared to your previous 15w-40/5w-40 samples. Amsoil claims this is their best oil but I have seen enough high Iron 5w-30 UOA's to laugh at that claim.
