oil, oil everywhere

200 miles from home cruising along at 75 my floorboard seems warmer than normal then starts to stink like burning oil. Get out and oil is almost pouring out the bottom -trace it back up. As you look at the engine left side ,right where the pipe comes out and into the turbo mech. where it bolts down is all wet with oil.It took 4 quarts every 60 miles just to keep up. What happened? is this a gasket thing? or do I need to sit down while I get the bad news?

Re: oil, oil everywhere

Turbo orings maybe. EBPV maybe. High pressure galley bolt backed out.
Clean as best you can have someone start the truck while you look you may need a mirror to look at the back side of the turbo.
Good Luck

Re: oil, oil everywhere

Thats cool i'll look at that .the oil seems to be coming more from cover over the injectors than the turbo area its just coming from the area from where the pipe goes up to the turbo. but i'll take a look

Re: oil, oil everywhere

There are only a couple of places it could be coming from. Could be the large plug at the back of the head, it seals the high pressure oil rail. We had an o-ring on that plug go out and it lost oil everywhere.

Re: oil, oil everywhere

I had a similiar issue, but not as bad. It was a galley plug. Had a hard time tracing it. I had to clean everything with carb cleaner before I found it.

Re: oil, oil everywhere

Check your HP oil hoses and the connections where they attach to the pump and heads. I lost about 4 quarts in ten miles when one of the o-rings failed at the pump connection. The valley filled with oil and ran down the back passenger side of the engine. Cheers!

I have a similar leak, no oil in valley, not leaking at EBPV, where is the galley plug?? how can you tell if it is the turbo pedestal?

Re: oil, oil everywhere

I found the problem its the gasket for the left exhaust cover plate(? the name escapes me)the one with the pipe going into the turbo. I got the engine all cleaned up and everything I had loosen and out of the way.
Do I have take the HPOP thing out to get that bottom bolt out closest to the front of the truck??? Is there anything i should know if that is the case?

Re: oil, oil everywhere

If you are looking at the fuel bowl from the front of truck to the left of it is a plate with the pipe going out of it connected to the turbo. This plate also has a wiring harness attached to it. Its not the cover with the oil fill but to its right. I say the gasket but its really caulk. I cleaned it up real good with acetone and compressed air started it up fortunately it was coming from the top. thats my deal but the hpop unit is sitting on the front-most bolt and need to know how to get it out and what expect .
