Oil Pan Seal Question

I have searched the site for an answer but could not find anything so please forgive my ignorance. My 1994.5 Ford F350 Powerstroke has an oil pan leak and I realize I cannot get the pan out. Will removing the trans and transfer and raising the motor get it out or do I need to pull the engine? If the engine has to come out does it need to come all the way out? If I have to pull a motor with 107,000 miles on the thing what else should I look for or replace while its out? Rear seal, any O rings or seals, any help? Thanks people. Joe FJ40

Re: Oil Pan Seal Question

I believe the engine has to be pulled, then flipped upside down for the sealant to set overnight.

Re: Oil Pan Seal Question

yes engine has to come out. it might be possible to do i by just lifting it but the old pan comes of very very hard. plus you wanta get it very clean so that the new one seals good. just pull the engine out. i use a air chisel to remove the old oil pan. remove the paint from the sealing surface's of the oil pan. clean surfaces very good with brake cleaner. then using plenty of sealant seal it up leave the block upside down for 24 hours to let the sealant cure proparly, it doesn't like oil on it until it gets to cure up. i'll second the oil cooler o-rings, much easier to do with the engine out and cheap to.

check out dzljim.com he has a pretty good write up on pulling the engine out. make sure you have everything disconnected.

Re: Oil Pan Seal Question

might be smart to reseal your dipstick tube adaptor too because that would be a lot easier. like the other guys said, be sure to remove all the old silicone and make sure absolutely no oil comes in contact with the silicone before it sets up.
