ok heres the deal i bought 2 chips from a vendor/ sponsor here.

i have a 97 federal truck with 5 speed and mleo code.

my dad has a 97 cali truck 5 speed with ???? code.

what i asked when purchasing is will the mle1 burn be fine for my dad? i already know it's just a later burn than mine.

what i got was a hold please and then a few minutes later a response of yes it is what you need. not that i dont trust the vendor but we are talking about my dads 60k mile psd here. i would feel horrible if it blew up or fried the pcm. JKA2 JKA3 are the 2 codes for his truck.
so that being said i know some of you have run some weird combos i.e.
splits with a non split pcm
regular injectors with a split pcm
i know one of these ways work but the other doesn't if i read right somewhere. so what about my situation splits with a splits pcm with a 49s chip burn of mle1?

The MLE code won't blow up the truck, don't worry, it may idle a little funny, but it won't hurt the truck.

You can do a single shot pcm on split injectors.

I have a 96 CA engine. Before I put in my Stage I's, with my splitshot injectors I put in a single shot pcm and chip, and it ran perfect. Though having splitshot programming on single shot injectors I hear is difficult to idle correctly.

ok now that i'm thinking about it. when you plug a chip in it over rides whatever pcm code you have and makes it the chip code right? so this essentially is mnaking his pcm a 49 state truck with the mle1 code right? cool glad to hear this will work. ryanpsd i will keep you in mind if we have any problems. thanks for the offer. my dad with splits should be making more power than me right? due to increased amount of fuel. I don't really know how the chip works to control the pcm parameters and all that. But I don't think it will "change" the pcm code as you were saying.

Before I could run the single shot pcm I had to make sure the chip was on it. I replaced the pcm only and tried firing it up (single shot pcm on splits with no chip) and the idle was crazy. I didn't try the chip though on the split shot pcm as you are doing but it should go fine. The worst that could happen would be it won't run right but it won't hurt anything, so either pull the chip and have it reflashed, or pull the pcm and replace with or reflash to a code for single shots (like TDE1, which is what mine is, even though this code's for an auto it won't affect having a 5spd).

And yes...the split shots have quite a bit of power in store once the chip is in [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif[/img] [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif[/img] [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif[/img] Check my sig for the chip install link and I have videos of my truck with the chip/pcm only (no injectors). The splits have tiny more power on the low end compared to my Stage I's (though quite a bit more overall than the stock singles), but since the I's once you get the rpms up a little and the turbo starts singing...hold on! If you install a "4" bank chip with the MLE code onto a pcm with the original code of, say a SOD4 for instance, the chip will overide the pcm. If you have a single bank chip then it will need to match the original code of the pcm in order to work.

so it sounds like you are sayin that the S0D4 chip is a cali burn? Hmm.. I needs to get me a new burn then.. I live in Oregon now anyway.

Also, I thought all trucks in 97 used the split shots? if that is the case, you wouldn't be mixing normal shot programming with a spitshot injectors?

Just shoot me if I got this all mixed up!

No I didn't say the SOD4 was a Kali burn, I just used that for an example. The SOD4 is a 49 stater burn.
