PULSE + DIY injectors is INCREDIABLE!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just finished Jim's DIY injectors while Bob is letting me test his PULSE HPOP. All I can say is FN WOW! I'm worried now about blowing up the stock turbo. I hit 32# of boost on a few test runs. I have a Banks IC but my EGT's get up to critical if I stay in it. Glad I have the gages! Can someone tell me what the stock turbo can handle?

Also, I'm thinking that I'll need to address the tranny. I have a bigger pan and cooler, running synthetic oil & have a Sonnax vavles & springs. Should I be looking into upgrading my TC & vavle body or just do the hole trans in one shot?

BTW, if anyone is wondering about the PULSE, if you could see what it did for my truck, there would be no more questions. Wish I could report about stage III's, but with the stage I's, it's NFNINCREDIABLE!

Your at the limit for the stock turbo..look at a D66 from Bean. Trans..I'd just get a BTS and be DONE!

Re: PULSE + DIY injectors is INCREDIABLE!!!

That sounds really sweet, are you planning on hitting a dyno soon?

I've wound my stock turbos into the mid 40's of boost, I think the boost you're running won't be too hard on it, it's best if you keep it under 30 though.

Oh and get a BTS, it's soooo much better than Sonnax and Tricums.

The PULSE has over 10 times the increase in oil over a 3 degree increase in swash plate angle.

Re: PULSE + DIY injectors is INCREDIABLE!!!

SmokeyRed, I would love to hit the dyno to get some numbers for everyone to see. Sorry I'm slacking in the funds department to get that done.

sick97, I think Bob is needing 100 orders of the pump at under $1500. Check at http://www.Dieselsite.com when you get the time.

I've also got a fuel leak somewhere and I can't pinpoint it. I've replaced the lines when Bob & I did the pump change.

I've been thinking about this, only a few ways to make the pump flow more in the same case...

More swash plate equals longer stroke equals more oil, but RAPIDLY increasing wear I would think. I'm guessing a complete a total redesign of the block and pistons to get maximum use out of the same area, IE maybe more pistons than stock, to more fully use the space within the pump???

Re: PULSE + DIY injectors is INCREDIABLE!!!

Fixed my fuel leak, the gasket was pinched in back. Running the PULSE lets you keep the stock fuel setup, ie bowl and everything else.

Speaking of stock fuel setup, I've been reading bunches of posts about changing out to an elctric fuel system. I know Bean & Swamp makes them, are there others? I've seen GREAT writeups around too for a "DIY" approach. I don't think my truck needs it right now, but how do I know if I'm running out of fuel? What are the signs?

A lot of guys say the stock fuel system is junk and should be replaced. I agree, most everything on the stock truck can or could be upgraded for either performance, longevity, or both. How much more power would I get after changing to eletric? Or are the eletric systems really for those with Stage II's and higher?

Seeing the prices of the kits are almost the same as the D66 spooler, I'm just wanting my next upgrade to be in the "Most" needed spot, which I think would be in the turbo department.

Thanks for all replies!

Re: PULSE + DIY injectors is INCREDIABLE!!!

Since I don't know what size your inj are lets say the only way to know what your fuel system is capable of feeding is to install a fuel guage. If it drops below 60lbs then get a elect system ...then a D66.

Sorry Cary, stage I's. I've been looking at ITP's fuel gage to see where I'm at in pressure.

Re: PULSE + DIY injectors is INCREDIABLE!!!

Brad, if you don't already have it done, shim your fuel pressure regulator, and hook up a temporary gauge and go for a hard run while watching the gauge.

My vote goes to a turbo if your fuel pressure holds.

Dave

Re: PULSE + DIY injectors is INCREDIABLE!!!

SmokeRed, I did shim the reg when I put the injectors in. Any idea if the fuel gage from ITP is a full kit or do I need to buy and build more stuff from a hardware store?

Also, a bit of bad news: I think my trans is on the way out. I went 4 wheeling this weekend and on the trip home, my truck kept shifting in and out of OD, a lot. My temps were normal @ 150ish. I'm thinking that the TC is to blame. Stock trans with 165K on it. Anyone reading this, would a upgrade to just the TC be advisable at this point?
