Pyrometer FINALLY In. HERE is What I Got, What Do You All Think??

First off I will say that drilling and tapping the manifold for pre-turbo installation is a SOB. It took me over 2 hours but it is in. Only thing is I think the end of the themocouple is smashed up against the other side of the manifold. Will this hurt anything?????

After it was done I had to go play a little and try it out. Well, this was the first time I actually REALLY GOT into it since I got my SC 1705 and it was AWESOME.

Here is my observations so, tell me what you all think.

Idleing 300-350
Cruising around town 400-500
Interstate with cruise set at 70 700-800
End of 1/4 mile run 1150-1200

All these numbers were with the SC 1705 on the TOW program.

My 1/4 mile run was SC still in TOW with my Little Black Box on HIGH setting.

The 1/4 mile is actually marked off a little short but I got upto 82 mph with the OD off cause I forgot to turn it back on. I thought it sounded really rapped out and afterwards I noticed the OD light on. And NO it was not on the street it was at small private airport that a buddy of mine works at.

Anyways, does any one know what I should expect with the SC on the high setting with the OD on???

I will be running tomorrow night at the Rogerville Drag strip and I am just curious as to what you all think I should expect.

Later,
Darrell

Those numbers seem about right-my truck is very similar. Maybe not so high at idle, but that prolly is just the difference in the gauges. Ideally your thermocouple end should not be touching anything.

The couple can slide so it will not touch the other side.

That being said I think your too high on temps? Mine comes no where near 300 at idle. Flat ground at 65 ish is 300-400 any slight hill it will jump a few hundred.

I think my temps are not manageable without a IC so I am saving some pennies for a install this spring.

Re: Pyrometer FINALLY In. HERE is What I Got, What Do You All Think??

well, mine stays about 300 at idle...but i need an IC as well...pretty good temps at the end of the 1/4...mine would most likely be about there if i left it in tow mode...but if i switched over to "FREAKIN GO!" mode, i would be letting out of it to avoid having fried turbo for dinner... Hmmmm, his temps are about what i get too. Just after starting, the gauge will hit 200 degrees. Never waited to see where it would peak yet, but won't go beyond that in two minutes. If i am cruising at 60 mph flat ground, i hit about 700 degrees. With cruise set at 60, into the rolling hills around here, i'll peak about 1000 degrees right away. With my trailer hooked on, i'll reach 1150, i've never passed 1200 yet. The hills are all short enough that the down shift brings on the boost and the temp drops off by the top of the hill. On the shut down side, i've always let it sit 3 minutes before turning it off, i almost only drive on the highways. It usually reads just barely under 300 degrees when i shut down, won't seem to go lower.

The gauges are in my 96, no IC, gutted the cat, made my own tymar style intake, and using Tony's economy tow burn, but those numbers were about the same stock. Maybe my gauge is reading wrong, would be nice if they are reading too hot, it's an autometer phantom series, pre turbo.

I dont know why you had so much trouble drilling and tapping, mine was 20 minutes tops, the complete install with pillar posts/wiring was done in under 2 hours
