I am looking for a center console that will replace my center seat on a 97 F350.
I belong to a Search and Rescue unit and I need to have a place to mount radios and such equipment. I don't use the seat, other then the arm rest.
Also, if there might be a rack that mounts to the trannie hump in front of the seat might work too.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

How about building something that would fit in the space? You could mount it with the factory mounts for the center seat, design it to fit the equipment you have and cover it with heavy denim material over a layer of 1" foam rubber so it looks upholstered. I did something similar in a Kenworth tractor I was driving at the time and it worked great - gave me a clothes closet, storage for a cooler/refrigerator and groceries for a couple weeks on the road, a place to mount my radios and electronics as well as looking factory due to the denim being about a dead match for the driver seat upholstery.
I built the basic frame from 2x2 and the sides and such from 1/4" plywood. Believe me the beating it took in the cab of a Kenworth with eight bag air ride (read no suspension to speak of, very rough ride) would be worse than you would do even with an off road fire response vehicle unless you were racing Baja as well.

Thanks for the replies guy. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Who would have thunk that I would end up with a couple of tumors in my right kidney. After two surguries and a lot of drugs, I feel better. Still have the kidney but now my tan may not look so cool with the scars.
As far as the console goes, I may be looking for bucket seats from a Bronco. Then the center console idea would be great. I am also looking at taking the rear seat out and putting the seat out of an extended cab in to give me more room in the back.
I belong to a Search and Rescue unit and I don't use the back seat any more. I have to carry extra equipment and other then a cargo box the back seat may work too.
Again, thanks for the info. I still have some healing to get through so I have some time to get things together.
