I was also told it is not a bad idea to redo the axle joint and seal. I am assuming this is the area by the knuckle and where the stub shaft meets up with the axle. Is it best to get these parts from Ford, Napa or another source? How difficult is it to do this on ones own or should a shop do it?

Thank you all again for the help.

What did you decide to do with your D60? Are you going with the RSK or just using the stock F350 springs it came with? I plan on getting some SD (Super Duty) springs for the rear B codes and using the OBS springs for the front. I am expecting a better ride or at least better than I have now and a small lift in the front to level things out.

I also bought all seals and bearings to rebuild the my D60 but after taking apart one side it looks really good so I might just replace the outer seals and bearings.

Good luck on your swap.

Aloha Texas-
I am now thinking of going in the reverse shackle direction. With CaryT's help I am trying to run down some good used front Super Duty Springs as well as the B codes ones you mentioned for the rears. Good luck with your project too!

Hey DABOSS,

Mine (Nit's Red CC) sits after the SD spring conversion 41" on the front measured from ground vertically through the hub to the fender arch. On the rear it's 40", (35" tires) when I purchased from Nit, guessing it was 1.5-2 inches higher compared to now. I also put on anti-sways bars front and rear off of an OBS (old body style). It handles wickedly....rides nice, drives where I point it. You should be pleased with this suspension mod and I would recommend the RSK and SD springs. On mine I went with the rear SD spring pack that has the overload spring on the bottom of the spring pack and added firestone air bags so I can maintain level ride.

Aloha JRC-
thanks for your reply and the info too! This helps as I am working towards a similar system as yours. Do you have a photo of your anti-sway bar setup? Just curious. Thanks again.

No sorry but it is exactly as on the OSB F350s. The vertical links (rods) connecting the frame mounts to anti-sway bars will need to be lengthened. I also replaced all the bushings with Poly ones. You can get all the pieces from your local wreckers off an OBS F350. Poly kit from Summit Racing....(Nit included a HUGE amount of extra stuff when I bought the truck and it included the poly bushing) You will need the frame attachment hardware, vertical links, bars and attachment hardware to axles. To get the vertical link length right I would mount everything and place the anti-sways level. You can cut the vertical links and slide into a sleave of pipe that is the correct length cross drill and bolt or weld.

Just to jump in that's good info on the sway bars. Not a lot of post here have that info. Also, do you think it would be hard to find a sway bar and possibly the steering parts at a salvage yard? I mean I am guessing since most d60's are scooped up that all the parts are too?

Well psu927,

I think it depends where you live. I know here in South central BC Canada, a lot of these pieces are not available used from the wrecker yards due to recycle steel prices and alot of yards "cleaned" the older models vehicles out.....the dealships are stocking less and less just because of the cost of inventory and they are getting old....I would think alot of guys do what you suggest in they take all the parts they can...

I know I have a bunch of "spare" anti-sway parts and other parts in general kicking around just because I know they are hard to come by.

Rear sway bars are fairly easy to find...at least on the west coast.
IMO using a RS kit without V code SD springs isn't worth the trouble...its that big of a difference. If you must make a choice forget the B's and get V's for the front.

Aloha Folks-
I am going through the d60 and wanted to ask you if Spicer has the large "u-joint" or is it a "steering-joint" that is at the end of the axle inside of the knuckle? I hope I got that right? It looks like a "u-joint." I was going to get the Precision one from Napa but someone told me to get the Spicer non-greasable ones. If they have it do you know what the part number is?

Also, I may try to rebuild the double cardin ds that came with this 1996 d60 and I see there are 3 u-joints. Do you know the Spicer Part numbers for these and I think there is also a bearing kit that has the rubber gasket-seal that is sandwiched between 2 of the u-joints. Does Spicer have that part too?

Thanks for the help here on the Spicer part numbers and if going with the non-greasable u-joints are ok or not?
Mahalo

Try United Drive Line Services in Albany. Link here. Not sure what they offer as services. Worth a look. The double cardan joint I would leave for a shop. Or call Driveline Service in Pittsburg Ca. for info. I'd stick with Spicer over the other.

Aloha Pete-
Yes, I am thinking more about leaving it up to a drive-line shop. I will check out the Albany one and I hear San Leandro Drive-line is good too. The biggie for me is if I can find the CV Yoke that attaches to my Borg Warner transfer case!

I think I can do the bigger joints where the knuckles are on the ends of the dana 60 axle. Just hoping to learn what the Spicer part number is and if I should use the non greasing u-joint.
Mahalo!
