Rear axle from a 1997 to a 1976 question

Does anyone happen to know if a rear axle from a 1997 F350 will fit up under a 1976 F150?

Or what modifications are needed?

I doubt the spring perches are the same, prolly have to cut and weld, the yoke is difffernt so custom drive shaft I doubt you can find a special U-Joint from Spicer. shock mounts prolly different. I can't say weather the wheel width will be the same either.

Not sure the width is the same but I am pretty sure they make a u-joint for it. But the driveshaft will be too long taking out a 9inch and installing a Sterling 10.25.

Re: Rear axle from a 1997 to a 1976 question

The spring perches on the 97 are wider. Set the axle up on jack stands to where the spring perches are level. Then just cut the perches off with a grinder and air hammer, or hammer and chisel. Take the measurement off the old 76 axle and weld them back on level. With the shock mounts, just cut the old mounts off the other axle and weld them in their places on the new axle. As far as the U-joint. Spicer absolutely makes a joint to fit your application. I put an 80 F100 driveshaft (1310 U-joint) to a 14 bolt (1410 U-joint). It's a hybrid joint. I don't have the #off the top of my head, but I can get it if need be. It's funny looking, 2 caps are big and 2 small and different lengths. Looks like a plus sign that got squished. And any good drivetrain shop or driveshaft shop will have them. That swap is VERY doable if you can cut and weld. Hope that helps.
