It's been a year now since I put disc brakes on my truck using parts from a 99 E-350 donor D-60 axle. Only put 5500 miles on it in that time but they work great. I've had plenty of tests here in Orlando like the recent dude who pulled out in front of me from a 7-11. I just know if my truck still had rear drums it would have a Harley imbeded in the grill now. I have found dust on the rims to be less than on the front, not bad to keep clean. It's all still on our site www.fordmann.com.
I'm up to 86,500 mile now (still a baby) and just replaced the fuel pump, it started spitting out the upper vent hole. Since my heater was long dead I went ahead and did the SD upgrade mods with it all torn apart. Here is a tip, trying to restart the banjo bolt was getting to me when I had a idea. I took it back out(didn't remove the turbo you know) and wrapped it with some 3M rubber tape. It's very sticky. Put it back in and with the tips of my fingers got a good grip and it went in first try. Got loads of info on this from this site on changing out the pump and heater, just love it. I'm greatfull there's people out there willing to help us keep em running.

Howdy all! This is my first post here, but I've been looking for a while.
I've been pondering the disk brake conversion for a while and I was thinking, what if you had a 99 and up 10.5 axle and you used the hub off a 10.25 and then had the rotor drilled for the 8-6.5 bolt pattern. You would be using everything off the 10.5 except the hub. Would this work??? I don't know how different the hubs are and I haven't looked at the two to compare.

Might want to think about having a parking brake. Look up CaryT 's posts on the TSM kit with calipers that have a parking brake.

just did the rear brake conversion here is what I did:
tsmmfg.com-for the conversion kit with the braided hose brakeline extensions-450.00shipped
Oreileys-for the 76-78 El Dorado calipers and pads-170.00
blackbirdcustomtrucks.com-for emergency brake hardware-45.00 shipped you will need this because rebuilt calipers do not have and this was the only source I found....I looked long and hard.
Carquest for rear seals-75.00
I went ahead and seviced the rear axle while I was there so new gear oil as well. You will need a flare tool to hook up the existing brakelines with the new braided hoses pretty straight foward I went ahead and pulled both existing brake lines and pinched off hose to keep from leaking. Also you need a special socket similar to the one for the front to pull the rear hub.
There will be some minor welding for new tabs included with new braided hose this will anchor the new junction to the axle tube. The TSM kit is first rate with all the necessary parts no mods what so ever but the caliper will have to be bolted at a 90* angle on the rear of the rotor. I will try and get pics this weekend.

also the performance is is way better stops on a dime.....the existing emergency brake cables will hookup but too much slack I will be replacing mine for some new ones will update.

yes the eldorado will bolt up the same as the chevy truck calipers. I will probably be using line locks front and rear for emergency brakes. here in michigan parking brake cables don't last very long. The only issue with line locks is if I loose all service brakes then they won't work. but if I do install 2 one on the front one on the rear then if I loose a rear line I set the rear line lock then have good pressures for the front brakes and vis versa.

Yea, I'm on the other side of the state from you and I'm quite happy that my '97 Ebrake cables are still working well, that's likely because I brought the truck up here from Georgia a couple years ago.
I like the line lock idea, I'm guessing they can be had pretty cheap used on ebay too.

Can you guys even legally use a line lock for a parking brake? Here you can't, it has to me mechanical. I use one on the buggy because it has turning brakes instead of a parking brake.
no but I can't legally take my cat out either, or modify the intake and a number of other things that your not allowed to do. Besides around here if michigan ever went to inspections about 70% of the car would need new parking brake cable and hardware anyway to be operational due to road salt.
line locks were regularly used on medium duty trucks as parking brakes but that was in the 70's and 80's they were called Mico locks I think.
