rear disk conversion

has anyone used either of these disk brake conversions?

black bird customs:
Ford Rear Disc Brake Kits for 9", Dana 60, Dana 70 and Sterling

tsm:
'85-'98 Ford Sterling

for blackbird, they want $550, for complete kit with rotors, brackets, loaded calipers, plus $45 for RUBBER extension lines.

for TSM, they want $730, for complete kit with rotors, brackets, loaded calipers and either rubber or stainless braided lines.

for me i would have to add sales tax to the TSM units since i live in their state

there seems to be a greater number of parts in the TSM kit.

just wondering if anyone has used either one and their pros and cons; my concern is the quality of rotors and pads they each supply. i could forgo the loaded calipers and source my own i suppose, but...?

thanks
mike

i'm happy with my kit from blackbird's. the pads aren't bad. i did end up with a caliper freezing, but otherwise it's a good kit.

then you need stock replacement brake pads and that not some aftermarket ones that may only be avaible through the manufacturer

I can't speak for this kit on a these trucks, but I bought a kit for my 67 F250 from TSM and they are a good company and very helpful. The disc brakes are convienent but I am not sure if you will get more braking power out of the kit compared to the orginal drums.

Also, will you need to change the master cylinder and proportion valve on the truck for disc brakes? something to look into and I had to change on my 67 project truck.

TSM list that you can by your kit with E-brake. I bought my 67's kit with E-brake.

I went with the TSM kit and could not be happier. I highly recommend TSM.

I did not buy the e brake with my kit. I never used the e brake and could not justify the extra money. I also did not replace the master cylinder or proportioning valve it is not needed.

The calipers, pads, and parts the kit came with were all great. The instrustions were good enough but the best thing is that Skip the owner of TSM drives and OBS and can walk you through any problems, questions, or issues you come across. He is extremely helpful and super guy to work with - I know I called him a hundred times throughout my install - but it really is not that bad.

Over all I would buy from TSM again and would send anyone to them for a kit like this. I was so happy to just to get rid of my drum brakes - it was night and day difference once I got my rear disks installed.

Good luck on you decision and let me know if I can help.

What disc and pads are they using? Can you get them at local parts store?
