Rear Fuel Tank

Well my rear tank is leaking and i need to replace it. Where is the best place to get one. Im looking for a poly tank as the rear is now steel, although my front tank is poly, doesn't make sense to me but is must to ford. Thanks.

Re: Rear Fuel Tank

Shane,
Ford had poly fronts with steel rears, did not offer poly rears.
Go figure.
I got a poly rear from MTS Company years ago when my steel rear went. Truck was like 4 years old at the time. I actually ahd a lot of trouble making their poly tank fit right, and make the filler neck and stuff fit. I guess if there's noone else out there you're stuck with them, but I wouldn't get it from them again...
I got my Bronco tank from a local salvage yard that stocks southern rust free stuff. Cost like $100 with straps.
Good luck.

Re: Rear Fuel Tank

Do a Google for MTS Company, that's their name.
Maybe they've changed a few things in the past 6 or 7 years.
God I can't believe it's been that long already...

MTS only lists the rear tank for 85-96 f-series. Will is fit in a 97 F-350? Any changes? My rear tank is junk and I dont want another steel one. The tank is held in by the skid plate.

Thanks

Chad

Many parts houses dropped the 97 list because there was 2 F-250's in 97. The light duty and the HD

Thanks. I call MTS today and they said that the 97 tank was different. They said many people had tried it and had sent it back. Something to do with it leaking around the sender? Maybe a different sender in a gas truck with electric in tank pump? They could didn't specifically say which was having the problem gas vs diesel but said they didnt think it would work. Ford dealer lists the same rear tank for 96-97 and didn't designate gas vs diesel (from what the guy told me on the phone). I tend to trust those who have actaully installed one. If you guys say it will work I'll go for it. I have the type that is held in by the skid plate. Dont know if that would make any difference.

I'm looking at the MTS #4253. That is the correct one right?

If anyone has any more guidance please share. I want to make the right decision the first time.

Thanks

Chad

Hey Chad if you want to talk to a total ford guru give this place a call. He specializes in ford and should be able to set your mind at ease.

To my knowledge the senders are the same size, holes are the same size for gas or diesel. That is why the bronco tanks work in the pick-ups.

Anyhow the guy you want to talk to is Eric Woodman. If he is not there the tech is Ben. Ben is very nice and knowledgeable, but I think Eric is the know all when it comes to Fords.

Place he owns is E+W Auto. He is in Loudon on chichester drive. I do not have a concord phone book in front of me, but I know it is in there.

Thanks, I'll give them a try. I have a Concord book here. I'm not far from their place. I live in Barnstead. I appreciate the help. The more stuff I look up the more confusing it seems to get. Just want to get the leak fixed!!
