Power Strokes 1994-1997 Upgrades and AftermarketUpgrading or adding OEM or aftermarket equipment to your 1994-1997 Ford F-Series with Power Stroke engine.
I installed a set of rear S\D springs that I have had for about six months now. They were on a 01 350 DRW, my truck sits 1" higher which is what I wanted and the ride is unreal. I have not towed yet, but you would think 350 springs would have a higher capacity. I wish I would have done this a long time, it rides great

Were the SD springs a bolt-on swap, or did you have to do any fab work to make them fit?

Yeah, you were right on the money with the S\D front springs, but I didnt see much talk about the rear's. I went by what you said and yes they fit and the rear shackle is straight up and down Thanks Cary.

Were the SD springs a bolt-on swap, or did you have to do any fab work to make them fit?
It was very easy, I had to drill the front spring bushing and the frame mount holes to 3/4, if I had the metric S/D bolts I would have only had to drill the front spring mount. Then for the rear I was using the S/D shackle so I had to grind a little on the bottom where it sits in the hanger due to the S/D shackle being made of thicker metal.
Also I had to drill the rear mount holes out to 5/8, I ended up using the original front bolts in the back mount because they were in perfect shape, even though I had new grade 8 5/8 x 5" for the rear and 3/4 x 5" for the front.
I did the drivers side first with no problems, then on the other side the bottom thick straight spring was about 3 1/2" longer then my obs spring and was hitting my exhaust, so I cut 3 1/2" off and it was fine. I reused my stock over load spring because the S\D over load was to long.
If your rear shackles are in good shape you can reuse them and not worry about drilling the spring mount, not that any of the drilling I did was a big deal. I cant believe that uses a spring hanger like they do, mine are rusted very bad. I have a couple of frame pieces that are rusted pretty bad and everything else looks fine, go figure.
I will get the numbers off the springs and post them, but I thought it was going to be a horrible ride until I pushed down on the bumper and could move the truck. I will be moving boats out of the A/C show Sunday night, so I will find out if I will need air bags, but I am very happy with the ride, I didnt think it would make such a improvement. My old springs had 4 leafs plus a over load the new springs are 5 leafs plus the over load. Good luck
Frank

Sorry for taking so long to reply. The new springs were a great improvement, I have a 18' open trailer and before the S\D springs I would put a jeep on the trailer and keep it over the trailer axles so my truck wouldnt squat to much, after the S\D springs I can drive the jeep all of the way to the front of the trailer and the truck sits good, maybe 3\4" down in the rear. I installed air bags last week so when I put some real weight on it, I can keep it level.
I'll try to get the spring code tomorrow. This Florida weather is unreal, it was 80* today and I had nothing better to do so I detailed my entire truck even replaced my wiper blades and fixed my passenger side rear window motor. The people at the hotel thought I was crazy, but its not often when I have time like this, no kids no wife and nothing but time, so I worked on my truck . Thanks
Frank

Is there something special about the dually springs or were they something you just happened to have? If 350 dually springs ride so good is it possible 250 springs might be even better.
What option got overload springs on a 97 250 4x4? Mine has the towing package but has no overloads. Doesn't really seem to need them either. On my 95 I didn't need the airbags until installing the front add a leaf.

When I picked the springs up I didnt read the add real close to notice the DRW in the members sig, not to mention they were only $50.00. Once I got home I noticed in the members sig it said DRW and I said O'well when I get time I'll give it a shot, I wish I would have done this along time ago.
I probably dont need the air bags but I hate the way the truck looks when hauling heavy with the rear down more then the front I want it level. I know at work we have a 97 and it does not have over load springs, go figure. With S\D springs you dont need the overloads. Good luck

Hey guys, I have some stock front springs from my 02 F350 and some rears from an 02 F250, in the for sale section.

You do not need to move the hangers on the frame do you?
Just match the holes on the hangers to the holes in the spring eyes, right?
And, my truck does not have overloads either???
On the rear you dont have to move anything and if your rear shackles are in good shape you can reuse them. I used the S\D shackles because they came with the springs and looked heavy duty, but I had to grind a little off of the bottom of the shackle so it would fit down in the rear hanger. Then I drilled the front hanger out to 3\4 and that was it. On the passengers side I cut about 3" off of the large bottom spring because it was hitting my MBRP tailpipe, it wont hit if you have stock exhaust my exhaust comes out on a 45* angle. I just got back from a 2771 mile trip towing a boat and these springs were great. Good luck
Frank
