Just searched 2000 posts with no luck although I'm certain the info is there somewhere....
I have a '96 Crew Cab 4x4 DRW conversion. Broke an axle Saturday morning and it looks like the housing is scrap. What does it take to put in a rear axle from a Super Duty? I'm aware I need SD wheels and that doesn't bother me. Would be nice to change out something on the front to get same bolt pattern there though. I gain disk brakes with the SD rear but I don't know how well they integrate/attach. I'd want to get a complete rear end with rotors and calipers. Do you use SD springs or retain OBS springs? How do you hook up the brake lines? Does the rear bolt in or do you need to fabricate mounts? Does the speed sesnor still work properly to run the cruise? What about parking brake cables and functionality? Will the DRW SD axle track the same? What do I do about driveshafts/yokes? What to DRW SD rears go for from the salvage yards? OBS ones seem pretty cheap. Anything I've missed here that I should be asking? Thanks.
i have done many, many, many axles swaps and the first thing you need to do is get a tape measure and start going over the "new" axle. break lines can be adapted but your master was never intended to work with rear disks. some dont like when you change from drums and some dont care. the pinion lenght of the new axle might be longer then you would need to shorten your DS. you would use your stock springs. the spring perches might need to be moved on the new axle....
the questions that your asking lead me to think that this might be to big of a swap without some help.
start doing your homework.

i agree, i would swap in a REAL axle if i was going to mess with a swap. if you are busting shafts, i would get some aftermarket ones and forget about it. it would be cheaper.
