Remote Start.....

Does anyone use a remote start for thier diesels? Sometime before winter, I want to get one... and was wondering how friendly are they to diesels, and if they let the glow plugs do thier thing before starting up.

Thanks!

Re: Remote Start.....

Most of them have some sort of timer to wait for the glow pulgs to warm up. I have mine set to 10 seconds and it works pretty good for the most part. Sometimes it has to try a couple times when it is cold though.

Re: Remote Start.....

I have a Viper remote start and alarm. Love it! It can be hooked up to the wait to start light or hooked to a timer. They can be used for auto or manual tranny, you have to get right model for your tranny. Viper is pretty expensive. Crimestopper makes a nice one for alot less money. You can find them on ebay. I can also roll up the windows with the remote. Really nice to be able to roll up windows, start truck and turn on air without having to go outside.

Re: Remote Start.....

Roll up windows??? Kewl! Can you really remotely start the A/C? First it is the chips that improve performance, give you power AND save you on fuel.... now its this. Wow... technology is awesome!

Re: Remote Start.....

You have to have the A/C turned on when you get out of the truck for it to be turned on remotely. You can't actually remotely control the A/C or heat. Just make sure it is where you want it when you get out of the truck.

Re: Remote Start.....

I had one put in by Circiut City last Fall. It's a Rattler. They had trouble wiring it to the Wait to start light so they put in a delay timer. I like the timer, it can be set from 5 seconds to about 60 seconds for the GPs. They did not wire the AC correct so I have to take it back to be corrected. I hate letting other people work on my truck.
