got my 97 p-stroke runnin and was wantn to put a keyless entry system on it. just debating if i should go the extra mile and get a remote start. but im not even sure if it will work with the glow plugs or not???
The systems I have seen are some pretty hefty wiring jobs...you can get systems for diesels that allow for a delay in order to warm the GP's before it cranks...

UPDATED 8/1/08 Replace so far. 1 LUK flywheel+clutch, 2 thermostats, 2 set of brakes, 1 set of calipers, 5 CPS, 3 sets of tires, 2 Transfer pumps, 1 Injector modual, 1 Computer, 2 Alt, 2 sets of batteries, 1 Water pump, 6 Belts, 1 PS hose, 2 Sets ball joints, 2 set u-joints, 2 carrier bearing, 2 Speed sensors, 1 oil pres sender, 1 temp sender, 4 sets of e-break cables, 1 front fuel tank, 2 rear fuel tanks, 2 set of glow plugs, 6 Glow plug relays, Oil galley o-rings, Turbo pedistal o-rings, EBPV o-rings, 3 sets of Injector O-rings, 1 Vac-pump, 1 new carpet.Total $$$ in repairs v/s miles driven = 3.0 cents per mile. Add fuel to that it jumps to 14.8 cents per mile over the life of the truck.
i got a python (same company as viper) alarm and remote start installed a couple weeks ago. it has a timer set to allow the glow plugs to cycle. no problems yet.

there is models specifically made for manual trans.
you have to go through a sequence when you shut down the vehicle otherwise it won't remote start.

That shouldn't make a difference on an obs.
There is only one additional wire to be hooked up compared to a gasser.
The WTS light can be tapped inside at the light for the gp system.
On the newer ones('03-up)the light is data and you need to run a wire outside to the actual relay,
and the tach sense requires a tach generator(extra) and needs to be mounted on the alternator.
I just meant $160.00 for alarm & remote start sounds awfully cheap on any car, gas or diesel.
I currently have Scosche remote start system and had it professionally installed, total cost was $390.00. The system has the capability for keyless, alarm, and many other functions as well including the ablity to keep the inside cab temp. constant by starting and shuting off vehical automaticaly.

there is many manufacturers that will work a couple i install are , compustar , ultra start , and zenysis , all 3 will allow for manual or automatic trans mission and glow plug operation with delayed start for diesels these units all work GREAT
