Power Strokes 1994-1997 Upgrades and AftermarketUpgrading or adding OEM or aftermarket equipment to your 1994-1997 Ford F-Series with Power Stroke engine.
i got my DP chip today and i cant get my PCM out of the firewall,i have removed the top and bottom 10mm bolts the rubber boot and the connecting harness.
to me it looks like it is to be pulled out from inside the cab,but the directions read that i must loosen the plastic fenderwell and pull it out from the outside of the fire wall.

Its been years since I've had one out so I dont remember exactly what holds it in. But it does have to be removed from the engine compartment side of the firewall. I had to remove the chrome wheelwell trim and undo a number of screws and them pull the plastic inner fender out of the way so it would fit. From in the cab you can see the PCM by removing the e- brake but there is no way to remove it thru there.

The port can be accessed from inside by unbolting the e-brake bracket,
but if this is the first time you are putting a chip in, it is recommended to remove the pcm completly to clean the contacts.
You have to remove it from the fenderwell. You have to unbolt the splash shield to be able to pull it out.

I 2nd this, I did it to lazy way with I put my chip in last week and didn't clean the wax off good enough. It ran good for a day and the next day in the rain it shut off and it's not in a easy to get to location. So I had to wiggle the wire to the switch till it started and after a more shut off's I made it to work. I pulled the chip and cleaned all the wax off with my wife's nail polish remover and haven't had a problem since.
