Rod knock

Well After i got my injector O ring situation handled with a set of stage 1's and 1000 miles on the highway I have a definite rod knock. I think it happened the 2 times I ran it out of oil, the first time I had no idea it was burning oil and the second time was because I didnt know how fast it was going through it. Good thing i am a machinist and it will only cost me parts and time. I also noticed that the turbo made a bad whine when under heavy boost and am thinking of puting a turbo off a superduty on the Ol girl and am wondering what is involved?

Re: Rod knock

you will need pedistal uppipes and colector, ic y pipe, 3" intakes. Some one here have put a sd turbo on there trucks and were not impressed at all. Man go with a BB or TN turbos.

Re: Rod knock

teh SD turbo is not an upgrade, more like a downgrade. How can you hear a rod knock? way too loud for that. If in fact you do have a rod knock then you must have bent it durign teh injector install, did you turn it over by hand first?, it si very possible that you tweaked a rod while gettign the oil out of the cylinders.

Does it white smoke at all? Could of not gotten one of the injs seated good and if it leaks fuel into the cylinder it will make a hellacious fuel knock.

Re: Rod knock

The only smoke I ever see is black smoke. Would a bent red get progressively worse, because it has been getting worse ever since I got done with my road trip and now it is so bad that I can feel it in the truck.

Re: Rod knock

But with as many times as he has run it out or low on oil could it be possible that it is a rod?

Re: Rod knock

if you run low or out of oil the injectors stop firing first , hence engine stops, you can not run teh main gallery or crank or rods out of oil first, great safety feature from Ford.

Re: Rod knock

Bent rod makes more sense, when i did the injectors i sucked the oil out of the cylinder and put the injectors in and pulled the plugs out except for #8 as it didnt want to come out and when it hydrolocked it hit pretty good. so i then pulled the injecor back out and was able to get the rest of the oil out of the cylinder. after i started it up it sounded fine and drove it around a day or so and then took my 1000 mile trip and on the way it started to knock and steadily got worse. The ridge at the bottom of the bore must be just steadily eating away at the piston skirt.

Re: Rod knock

yes, you failed to mention the hydrolock on #8, most of the oil and fuel go into that cyl, bad problem. You should really jsut start by gettign ready to pull the motor, you may be able to save it now, I hope.
