Re: Selectable Locker for the 10.25

I didn't see where the Eaton Elocker was available for the Sterling yet:
http://www.traction.eaton.com/prod7.htm
I don't know of any other switchable lockers.

Back at ya - Do you know if there is a torsen style rear diff for the Sterling? I looked but didn't see one.

Why would you NOT want go with ARB? Only reason I can think of would be price.
I've has 3-4 ARB's over the years for wheelin', I wouldn't buy any other brand!

Re: Selectable Locker for the 10.25

ARB is a really great product. I have one on my turbocharged street/strip Mustang. It is awesome for that application.

In the rear of my truck an ARB would be a different story. An ARB would be a pain in the neck back there where a torsen style would be a great benefit. In the front of the truck an ARB would be great, but seldom used. Just depends on your driving situations.

As for wanting a different locker than an ARB, I could see not having room for the air compressor or wanting wires instead of an air line going to a lockable differential. I think the Elocker has a bit of limited slip when not locked where the ARB is fully open. Other than that I don't know.

Re: Selectable Locker for the 10.25

speaking of ARB, I do have one in teh D60 up front and yes it works, a really well at that, saved my bacon last year, you can tighten up the stock rear end but a Torsen would be awesome.
However teh question- teh valve that controls the ARB is a 3 way model, mine is stickign closed, it will bleed off air a bit but not much, I can not tell if it works, so where can I get a new one, and /or can it be cleaned up?

Re: Selectable Locker for the 10.25

I never tried to clean one up before, but the Solenoid Valve Part no. is 18-01-03, off of a model RDCKA ARB Air Comperssor. I'm not sure about ordering individual parts but I guess anyone that sells the ARB stuff should be able to order it for you.

Re: Selectable Locker for the 10.25

they were trying to come out with an e-locker in for the sterling! i have one in my bronco and i love it! i have had arb's but the older it got the more problems i had with the air system.

theres not much out there as far as true selectable lockers for the sterling, but i am sure they will come out with something

Here's a link to a tech tip page about a much cheaper replacement for the ARB solenoid valve.

Here

I actually haven't had to use my winch since I installed ARB's front and rear, its amazing what you can drive out of with them locked. I like the fact that they are fully open when disengaged and not limited slip, really cuts down the white knuckle factor on icy highways.

Re: Selectable Locker for the 10.25

Thansk for the link , that will work for me, I don't get the hiss jsut s slow leak when shut off.
Your right I have only used the wich to get unstuck exactly once, on teh side of a lake last winter in teh snow, after I found out all teh bolts from transfer case to driveshaft were gone, no 4x4, with 6 kids in teh truck too. Buried it in mud 18" deep and jsut powered right out, but 3" od snow and no front drive = stuck.

Re: Selectable Locker for the 10.25

If you don't get the hiss when you release the locker, the orifice is probably just plugged. You can clean them out. They also make a kit to run a hose off the solenoid to somewhere under the truck to keep dirt farther from the actual solenoid. I believe you can e-mail tech@arbusa.com with any questions.
