Shocks and Springs

I am looking for advice on replacing/upgrading my shocks and springs. (front and rear) I am not looking to raise the truck as I am happy with the stock height. I do need the solution to be HEAVY DUTY for dragging around my 5th wheel camper. Camper weighs in around 9.5k pounds or more loaded up. Your suggestions on what works and what to stay away from are greatly appreciated.

Currently the suspension is all stock. Heck the whole truck is pretty much stock right now. But I am looking to fix that too...

Re: Shocks and Springs

For shocks, I'd recommend Bilsteins. For spings, there are not too many options that I've been able to find. I did find springs at JC Whitney that looked like they were the same as stock. They also sell a HD rear spring. You might also consider adding air bags to the rear. Put air in when towing, let air out (to soften the ride) when not towing.

Re: Shocks and Springs

I would definitely consider bags after replacing springs...I recently just added bags to the rear of mine for towing my boat and it made a WORLD of difference!

Re: Shocks and Springs

I second air bags. I've had them on two trucks (both were half tons) and they made a world of difference towing. It's nice not to be blinding people with your headlights with a trailer in tow or 2k lbs of gravel in the bed.

I'd recommend getting a system with a small compressor and gauge and control in the cab - makes it a lot more useful and you can adjust it while you're going down the road if the situation requires it.
