First off...welcome to the site...what has taken you so long to find us?
Your absolutely correct, that the Ford Dealership is nothing but a LEACH, to try to squeeze every nickle they can from you, as there are far better alternatives these days.
Most parts needed, can be bought from other vendors, either for less (sometimes ALOT less) or of much better quality!
You'll find no other source on the net that is more educational than the folks here, of which everyone is always willing to lend a hand!
There is even a "Powerstroke Registery" of which you can access...all over North America, where if you break down in some uknown place, you just call up the local guy in that area, and most often he'll do whatever he can to get you up and running again! Hard to find that kind of service for Free anywhere these days!
Now, if you haven't done your injector O-rings, you very well may need new ones, BUT for the price that they quoted you, for not much more, you can put in some aftermarket injectors (all checked out, with new O-rings) and much better power output and probably fuel mileage with the correct chip programming!
At 200K, you've finally got that engine broke in, so it should run fine for a LONG LONG time yet! There are several folks on here, with alot more miles than you have, who are just starting to add "modifications" to make their Powerstrokes both run alot more efficiently and with much better power ouput 5VR_Nut!
More than likely, as mentioned..with your mileage, it is time to spend a few bucks to get her back in shape for another run at 200K on top of what you have.
You might want to check out
Steve Baz's website, of which we usually send most new comers, as there is alot of valuable information to learn on the Powerstroke there. Check out his "Tricks & Tips" section.
Our injectors don't use a so called "Pump" like the IDI's did, but we do have a High Pressure Oil Pump" and you may possibly need new O-rings on the IPR (injector pressure regulator) as well. The IPR sits ON the high pressure oil pump, and O-rings for it are quite inexpensive.
If you need to know how to do that, just ask, as there have been many of us who have done this already.
If you have any other issues, or questions, just fire away, and most often you will always get an answer one way or the other.
Best of luck!
Dale
