Getting ready to swap my auto out for a manual and want to know which is the best clutch kit to go with and where to get it. I plan on putting some more power into the thing hopefully just takes time. Can somebody chime in and give me their .02 please.
Thanks Rusty

South Bend is pretty much the one to get if you want to make power. The Con O is rated to 400hp, the OFE is rated to 450hp, and the FE is rated to 500hp. After that you get into the double disc clutches. I just installed an OFE and am very happy with it.

I don't like my LUK setup. I don't know why but at full throttle when you push the clutch the in it hangs up for a second. A friends truck with the LUK SMF kit does the same thing. I will most likely go with a Valair next time around.

Not a big fan of the Luk either. I had the stock dual taken out of my 96, and replaced with the Luk SMF. A week later I had it yanked out and an OEM dual put in. It felt much better and was a lot quieter!

I have over 50k miles, with lots of towing, on the LUK standard clutch and found it to be a decent product. You do get the gear noise in the lower gears if you load down near idle but the low pedal pressure is sure nice.
I have been reading a lot of criticism about the jerking in reverse, I must be honest and say that I do experience that when backing our trailer.
My BIG WARNING would be that if you plan on upgrading injector, the LUK standard clutch is probably not a good choice. I upgraded to 130cc (Bean's TS) and for the past year have been troubleshooting a "pulsing" in power around 1,800 rpm, only when towing (loaded) and have boost building. I am beginning to think the pulsing is the LUK slipping as 1,800 is right about the torque peak for our motors?????? So I will be searching the archives on the SBC and Ceramic LUK...
My $0.02!
God Bless,
TC
