Here's a thought I've been having for a while now. I'm wondering if this is possible. I've got a cap on my truck and want to put a set of stacks on it. My wife uses my truck frequently hauling stuff back and forth to craft shows so heat would be a big issue here. I want to bring the stacks up through the bed and up through the top of the cap. Now here's where it gets iffy. If I wrap the stacks with a heat shield kind of like the firefighter suits are made out of and then make fiberglass tubes to cover the stacks all the way down to the deck and then put say some bullhaulers on or straight tips with rain covers on them. I'm wondering if the heatshield would hold up to long road trips and if the heat would build up inside the cap. Just a thought.

I had a friend do it on a truck once. It never looked quite right (looked fine with stacks and no cap), and heat was an issue. I would say either one or the other, but not both.
I've seen a Dodge with a cap and stacks but I don't know how he did it. He was dragging the truck so it probably got pretty hot. If I were you I would just save my $$$ for something else.

Here's what I think. Just do the stacks inside the cap, and crack the back window. You'll have to cut a small hole in the bed floor and attach a chain to the driveshaft, hooked to a roterissie. Then, buy a hog and while driving you can smoke your own meat.
Seriously, it's a bad idea. You'll never get it to work properly and probably ruin a good cap.

The firefighter suit material will [i]not[i] work as a heat shield. The heat can still transfer, and believe it or not, the shell can even burn if heated enough. Most of the thermal insullation comes from a thick liner inside the suit. There are other type of heat wraps I have heard of but not sure how they would work for this application.

A guy who used to be on this site (Kainers) had such a setup a few years ago. You might try to find him on one of the other Powerstroke sites (he always uses the same username) and ask him about pros and cons. I think he finally pulled the cap (canopy) off when he bought a gooseneck trailer, but he ran it for a while.

What I have thought of but never seen done is to mount the stack outside the bed like a Peterbuilt using chrome heat sheilds. I think it might look pretty cool on a dually, and no holes in the bed. Not sure on a srw truck but it is an idea. I agree it could be done but not worht it through the shell. If you insist on doing that use a pipe in a pipe with airspace between and the ability for air to flow through the gap.

I'm just being a smartass anyway. Ignore me please.
I've been married just over four years and it was the best thing I ever did. We have a three year old, a one year old, and a baby. My life would be really empty without the four girls in my life.

I think that is a picture of Kainers truck...I took it a couple of years ago up at a sled pull in Tule Lake, CA
Yup, that's his truck! I'm pretty sure he still has that canopy, but he bought a big 5th wheel horse trailer with living quarters, so off came the canopy. He also changed to a single stack at some point IIRC.
He'll definitely be at the NHRDA Nationals in Medford Sept 6-7, that's a good reason to make that race
There is a maroon late model Dodge which runs the midwest pulling circuit (and is also show quality) which has its stacks molded into the side of the bed. I'll see if I can find any photos.

I was gonna ask if it was a dually, mine is and I want to run 8 ft straights up the side of the bed, does anyone know what parts work the best or are we on our own?? I have a fuel tank in my bed and think the outside stacks will look better and more like the big truck look and not funny like those short 36" stacks.
