Stacks or No Stacks

I was thinking of putting some 5 inch miter cut smoke stacks on my truck but now I'm not to sure. I have a 4 inch MBRP exhaust and love it but the stacks would look awsome. I have a tool box on the bed and don't know wether it'd be worth shortening the bed for some look rather than functionality. Not to mention that smoke stacks are just that... SMOKE stacks. And with this new Ultra Low Sulfur fuel I haven't been able to get her to smoke as much as she used to.

Re: Stacks or No Stacks

Stacks are cool and get some bigger injectors...then you'll blow some smoke, just don't be excessive

Re: Stacks or No Stacks

I, for two, want stacks but my problem is the noise, not so much as the loss of bed space. I went for a ride in a buddy's Dodge, he had 5" mitres and that Cummins talked. His cab noise was minimal, but I'm sure the newer trucks have better sound dampening as opposed to our trucks. I'll give it some more time, if I still want them after a year or so, I'll go for it.

I plan on getting a set from http://www.blackclouddiesel.com/. If your worried about noise they offer muffler inserts.

Re: Stacks or No Stacks

Ya i say do the stacks i just went from a four inch exhuast to stack and i love it. I to was worried about the noise in the cab one of my friends has a 91 cummins with a stack in it and you cant talk to each other in the cab cause it was so noisy but mine with the windows rolled up sounds just as quite as it did with my other exuast on, but with the windows down it sound a hell of alot meaner. I love the way it sounds that and i just plain love blowin two big streams of smoke straight up in the air. I to have pics of my stacks in my webshots

I had the same concern a while back. I posted about it and recieved some good info/suggestions. Click on my user name and look back through my posts (some time ago) and enjoy. I had plans on turning my box around, clipping the corners off, rebuild and install inbetween the stacks. No loss of space, but the disadvantages are obvious. Like you, that void where the stacks are would drive me up the wall.

I have a Diablo Flip Chip that I keep on Performance all the time, it's like 100hp gain. But when and if I get the stacks how do the people at the emissions test check it then. I laughed before when they were having a hard time putting the sniffer on the MBRP 5inch tip. And I also see a lot of guys with the miter cut without rain caps, what happens when it is pouring rain and I don't drive for awhile?

Re: Stacks or No Stacks

Drill a small hole at the lowest point of the exhaust system.

Re: Stacks or No Stacks

loss of bed space is great. personally i love the gap. i always reach back through the sliding back glass and throw trash in the open space. plus comes in handy when i dont have the tailgate on because gas jugs fit right in the gap and wont go anywhere.

Re: Stacks or No Stacks

ya'll make good points, But don't you find it a sin to cut and throw off a perfectly good 500 some dollar MBRP exhaust? I just don't know if I can justify the money right now. Maybe instead I was thinking about putting on a nice moonvisor and a lighted ford emblem (if anyone knows where to find one PLEASE let me know) I search all over the internet, it seems that they were discontinued because of ford not renewing their licence with the company that made them.

Re: Stacks or No Stacks

sell the exhaust here in the for sale adds someone will buy it, or sell it local.

as for rain I dont have any holes drilled in mine and I prolly should, I always get black spots on the '96 since its white.

the COOLEST thing is snow in the box and your driving, we got 10" today at work and all the way home they were steaming from the snow hitting them

Re: Stacks or No Stacks

stacks are aweome, my buddy has some from black could and they are great, he took em off the white 97 im running now and put them on his 02 . the noise diff IN cab was monumental. you can hear em alot more in the cab on the 97 than on the 02. im still putting some back on when i get a few bucks. i prefer turnouts to miters tho , if for nothing else than the water reason, i dont like the look so much but thats just me. and you COULD drill a hole to fit a 1/4 npt pet**** on a hole on the lower part of the exhaust, and open it when it rains, but you'd have to get fancy to make a handle to open it from the side of the truck unless you crawled under. hehe
