Re: stage 1's with no IC

I am... no intercooler here. It and the GTS kit are still sitting here collecting dust.

Up until a couple months ago I never pulled anything with my truck, and never really had to worry about EGTs. The only times I had to back off any was a long hard pull up a grade/long hill. In that case the intercooler would be more effective at saving the turbo than EGTs as you will make a little less boost, IMHO.

Though now with my sand rail and trailer for it (not sure how much, I can't see more than 4k), it is WAAAY easier to run up those temps. In my experiences so far, even just accelerating to pass someone on level ground they will jump up 200-300 easily, and already run about 100* higher overall. With any real load, accelerating up a hill will usually be out of the question.

But those are just my driving habits. My "redline" on the pyro is 1200 and I will not let it pass that. This is also all while running Bill's extreme program (an older and rather mild one compared to the newer twildman stuff), as the stock program just aint got the go. (I dropped the tow and economy programs for other extremes so I have no feedback on temps with them).

Ok I guess I could have made that shorter. In a nutshell: Unloaded, don't really worry about it. Towing, just take 'er easy and watch the gauge.

Now I have a reason to hopefully someday put in that IC. Not looking forward to it though.

Happy Holidays.

Re: stage 1's with no IC

Hey i dont run a IC and I still have my stock downpipe........... I havent towed heavy with it yet. Unloaded in my hot programs I've seen 1400 for a few seconds but it takes a hard run thru the gears to get it that hot. On my tow program the temps dont get too hot no matter what i do with the truck unloaded.

Re: stage 1's with no IC

I am runing mine w/o an IC (IC is sitting in the shed)
Honestly, the 1's are not running any higher egt in my mild tow program, then my stock ones did with the old gold superchip.
I live in SLC, s everywhere I go is uphill
I can hit 1400 if I really stay in it, but so far I have not had to drop under 70-75mph on any hill with 5-7K in tow.
I want the IC in, but I don't feel it is mandetory....

Re: stage 1's with no IC

Ryan -- Tim down in Lakeland modifies injectors and I think has a couple sets out there. If you want injectors from the wife, find a comparable piece of jewelery or such and I think you're good to go!

I am visiting the family for the holidays and also fixing/modding the truck at the shop where my brother works.

Re: stage 1's with no IC

I'm running stage2's without an IC. I can hit really high EGT's but only if I am working at it or towing something.

Usually downshifting and keeping the RPM around 2800 or higher solves the EGT problem for me.

If I am just making a spirited run up the onramp, I usually dont pay attention, cause it is only up in the red for maybe 5 seconds or so.. takes a few seconds to climb up.

Honestly the power of the Stage I's feels VERY reliable. I have no worries whatsoever of breaking something. Okay I broke a D50 but that doesn't count.
