Stage III of tranny Work

It was a mixed day. I pulled my tranny coolers and now I'm down to one big one. and nothing else. I replaced the lines going to the tranny cooler and back. I was going to start the truck and check for leaks but it didn't want to start (batteries dead). I was just givin yall an update.

Re: Stage III of tranny Work

I think I heard a while back that one good cooler(rather than two or three)is better for oil flow. Time for some new Motorcraft batteries?

Re: Stage III of tranny Work

Here's the update. I ended up adding 3quarts of tranny fluid. Now with the one cooler my tranny temps are a little hot (running around 180 instead of 150) The hottest it has gotten was 200. I'm thinking about putting one of my large tranny coolers back on it. So i would have two large tranny coolers. My "large" tranny coolers are about 1/2 the size of the radiator. Any suggestions? Also is this temp too hot.

Re: Stage III of tranny Work

I have already by passed the rad cooler. I am just running the one tranny cooler. And it runs hot when i was test driving the truck again around 11 last night, the temps got up to almost 180. I was just out driving up and down on the freeway and service roads.

Re: Stage III of tranny Work

Went out and drove the truck today and it shifted great. (good enough to get me pulled over and issued a ticket and two warnings ) I dunno if there was some air in the lines or what. I felt the t/c slip once or twice but thats about it. I'm planning on upgrading the tranny. Which one should I get. Monster box, BTS, etc. Or should i keep the factory setup and just get maybe a monster box or bts T/c With a Monster box valve body?

I would drop Jon a line and save a little cash...I have PM'ed him several times and he is very informative and always responds to my silly questions. Besides OK is only about 8 hours away...

Re: Stage III of tranny Work

Ok heres the new thing. It went into limp mode right after i set my chip to my tow program. I felt the t/c slipping some, so i was hoping to boost the line pressure without it going into limp mode. Well it shifts really hard now and it doesnt' feel too good.

Re: Stage III of tranny Work

You need to put the chip in stock, and reset the PCM by pulling the #9 fuse. I think with it slipping even in tow mode that TC is fried. If you are not careful you will not have a tranny before too long. Mine never went into limp mode, just had metal shaving all over the pan and wouldnt shift at all.

Re: Stage III of tranny Work

It is now time to service the tranny. Will doing this make things better or worse. I'm running amsoil synthetic so it is a little pricy.
