Starters...seems to be several different ones on Ebay?
My question would be regarding what seems like several different manufacturers..or rebuilders of starters, all at different price levels! Apparently the Superduty starters have a higher torque value than our early starters, and only bolt up with 2 bolts..rather than ours which I believe has 3 bolts?
Are they just able to contend that they are a higher torque for our early Powerstrokes, mainly because the torque was increased on the Super Duty engines...since they fit?
My starter is working fine, but it just seems odd to see several different places selling high torque starters for the Powerstroke, which all look somewhat different, and are going for different $$!

Re: Starters...seems to be several different ones on Ebay?
I have a Super Duty starter in mine. Have had it in for over a year now and it works great. It is a 2 bolt unit.
It spins the engine quite a bit faster (sounds like the super duty spin up) and I'm definitely fond of the faster spin. Truck starts almost as soon as you turn the key.
My starter was approx $160 shipped to my door.

Got my SD starter from the ford dealer, 2C37-11002-AARM. Changed it out over a year and a half ago with no problems. The only change from a stock swap is enlarging the small wire lug at the starter end from 5mm to 6mm, just have to get a nut before you start.
Re: Starters...seems to be several different ones on Ebay?
Mine has been acting weird lately. I went to autozone and found out they want $180 plus a $200 core charge, so Ill wait till it goes out, sounds like the superduty starter is a better way to go anyways. I might order one just to keep here, thanks for the part number..
Re: Starters...seems to be several different ones on Ebay?
i just bought one from autozone yesterday. $169.99
i shopped around at all the places online and parts stores. they were by far the cheapest. i also looked online at sd starters and they all showed the same one as what i had. (i remebered reading about how they were cheaper and 2 bolts) well same price everywhere as older style. except i didnt check ford for sd priced starter. ford wanted like 300 for the obs starter btw.
1 last thing my autozone starter has a lifetime warranty!!!!!!
and cranks over really fast.

Re: Starters...seems to be several different ones on Ebay?
I just installed the SD upgraded one last month in my 95. It is a very beefy unit that really spins up the engine.
I wish i had taken a picture of the old and new one side by side before i installed it. The OEM starter seems very small in comparison, it was only about 5 pounds or so, and this starter has to be at least 10 pounds or more. It is phsically larger, but that is due to the gear reduction drive. Once it's installed you will see the "motor" part below the frame rail from the passenger side wheel well. Oh, and you will not have to open up the small electrical lead for this one either. It uses a screw to attach to the lug, and it fits just fine.
Anyway, i'm very happy with it, i might even order another to keep around for the 96. I also like the fact that there isn't a core charge. I had called the local napa for a 2000 model starter, and they wanted $340 canadian, plus a $100 core charge if i didn't bring the old one in. So this was a no brainer.
