Power Strokes 1994-1997 Upgrades and AftermarketUpgrading or adding OEM or aftermarket equipment to your 1994-1997 Ford F-Series with Power Stroke engine.
The starter finally shot craps after 11 years, what's involved with putting in a Super Duty starter? Is it a pain or is it a direct bolt in? Anyone know the cost difference? 99-03 the years I should be looking for? Thanks,
Dave

Go to the DB Electric store on ebay and get a Nippon-Denso gear reduction starter. They run about $150 shipped. Great starters and this place has
the best price I could find.
If you can't wait for DB electric...go find a good OCA starter at somewhere like NAPA...I got a NEW one for a little more than $150 as I recall...I would stay away from Autozone and the like remans...
Install wise...DIRECT BOLT ON. Only difference is you will not use one of the three bolts your stock starter uses for mounting. The SD one only takes 2 bolts to mount it.

Good Luck,

Direct bolt on EXCEPT your positive battery cable at solenoid connection will most likely have to be reamed out as the posts on the new solenoid are a hair bigger. You won't be disappointed. I got the dbelectrical, also a stancor, and new glow plugs about 3 years ago(they all still ohm out ok), and it starts like a dream. The starter has to spin it over about twice the rpms the old starter does.

you got me...Wasn't it that little ignition wire (small one) that needs to be enlarged? I think what I did was rather than try and drill it, I just snipped the end of it so now its a "U" instead of and "O"

Me too. Starters always go on the coldest damn day of the year. Dikes are much faster than a drill....

As an electrician I agree, Dikes are much faster than a drill... I just couldn't wait so I got an OE replacement from Napa, it's brand new and has a lifetime replacement warranty, cost me $205. It is definitely stronger than old one ever was.
Thanks for the help though guys,
Dave
