I have a '97 F-250 and I had to have the PCM replaced a few weeks ago. When the put the new PCM they updated it with the most recent updates. When I tried to load the chip into the new PCM my "wait to start" and "check engine" lights stated to flash and I got a "not original vehicle " message and my truck would not start. I had to have it towed to the dealership and they reloaded the stock program. After they loaded the stock program my truck cranked up and has been running fine. I have called superchips and I have talked to three different people and they all tell me something different. Do you think my programmer is vin locked? Has anyone had this problem? If so what did you do? Thanks!

Superchip programmers are VIN locked. Once you load their programs into one PCM they have to be "unloaded" to use the programmer on another PCM, or truck.
You now have a code reader only unless SuperChips steps up and unlocks the programer for you. I have heard that they will do it but it will cost you for them to do it.
Pent, do you have a really older version of the tuner? I have the same problem right now. My tuner wont go back into my truck. I've called Superchips to get support, we'll see. I think my model number 1701. Gotta go check.

Yup, that's the same one I have too. I've taken it in and out of trucks all the time to show it off and this last time it didn't work. I've called Superchips last night and left a message. Hope they call me today sometime.

Pent, also I forgot to add, my tuner is the first generation version that is NOT vin locked. Now I'm getting concerned if I'll get any support for it after re-reading your original post/question.

The last guy I talked to told me to plug it in and to see if it gave me any kind of code and to call back. I am a little gun shy now so I am going to drive to a dealership and be in the parking lot in case it wipes out the program again. I will probably never buy anything from superchips again because of how this whole thing has gone.
