I picked up a 1705 at the police aution. I knew I would have issues with it as it was used but needed a code reader anyways. Has anyone had one of these reflashed or reset so I can use the performance settings or do I just have a fancy code reader?

If it says "vin locked" it was never reset by the previous owner (or thug in this case?!) and yeah - you basically have a code reader.

I have never heard of a way to get it unlocked without the original vehicle it was installed on.

Maybe an explanation and proof of purchase from the Police Ddepartment, Superchips will redo it for you. Worth giving them a call.
