Re: Those with XL model trucks........

As far as i know the buttons are on the wheel, not the pad due to the airbag i suppose. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Re: Those with XL model trucks........

Ford offers or at least offered in 2000 a cruise control install kit for the 2000 model trucks. Assume it fits other years. My friends 2000 accidentally got ordered with no cruise when the order was bumped from a '99 to a '00. The kit included steering wheel, buttons and some other stuff. It's more difficult and pricey than the horn pad install on the '94-'97. Pictures were taken and I thought I posted them. Might be buried in the archives or my memory may be bad. If you are interested PM me and I can try and track down the info. Only problem was we never could get the buttons to light up like on the XLTs with factory cruise.

Re: Those with XL model trucks........

The models before and after the OSB/OBS all have the buttons mounted off to the side of the horn pad (if on the steering wheel...) Ours are the only ones with it mounted on the horn pad.

Most likely factory. The only way to get cruise from the facotry was with tilt steering. Ordered 2 XLs that way.

[/ QUOTE ]

I can confirm CC was a factory option on XL trucks. Never looked for the tilt. I Have a parts truck and the options are cruise, 4X4 and radio. It belonged to Ga Pac and was used to inspect tree farms. Thats why a 4X4 and cruise. Hwy miles 90% off road 10%.

Re: Those with XL model trucks........

I didnt mean to start anything by the subject title "Those with XL model trucks..." I assumed all Xl's came w/o cruise unless ordered. My bad. Maybe the mods will let me revise the title so that it'll be correct and rename it in such a manner that a search will hit on it.

Re: Those with XL model trucks........

I was able to track down the 10 page instruction manual from when we did the factory accessory cruise install on a friends 2000 F-350 Stroke, 6-speed, 4x4, XL. The 2 part numbers below are what is on the instruction sheet. I believe the top number will be for the kit.

XC3Z-9A818-AA
SKXC3J-9A818-AAW

Contents:
Steering wheel w/buttons
Clockspring harness
philips head screw
2 butt splice
1 wire harness/connector

Re: Those with XL model trucks........

For the 99-07 7.3 and 6.0 PSD's, you can buy the kit or just build your own. A couple of resistors and two switches from radio shack, and your in business.

Re: Those with XL model trucks........

Bringing back an old thread....

I just got the clock spring/Steering wheel installed on my truck. Does anyone here know where the splices and such are supposed to go? It does not yet work. Also what kind of splices are needed? I didn't get the kit, just the steering wheel and the clockspring.

Thank you

Re: Those with XL model trucks........

All you should need is the horn pad with the cruise buttons, and to jump the harness under the hood?

I just FINALLY got around to making mine work. The horn pad I bought for some reason had a different non-OEM connector, so I had to do some splicing magic to get it working with the extra wire in the old connector. A true OEM horn pad shouldn't have this problem, I think mine was a cheap knockoff or something, I got it new on ebay.

Works great though, I am sooo glad to finally have cruise control!

Re: Those with XL model trucks........

Ryan, I think rpenner54(also Ryan) is talking about his '99, a different set-up. Glad you now have cruise though. Easiest mod I've ever done.

Any way to wire cruise on a XL without using a factory steering wheel pad?
I was thinking about mounting a on/off Arming switch and a momentary contact "set" switch if possible??
Is there any pics of the wiring and which wire controls what ??

THANKS !!!

PS> I have a 95' XL truck without the Tilt steering wheel.
I have no idea what wires I would need to find under the dash to hook up the cruise...

Just go to the junk yard and find a cruse horn pad and you are good to go.

Which two wires?

My three wire colors are as follows:

Black
Green with yellow tracer
orange with green tracer

The order listed is while plugged into the dummy plug on the master cylender starting with black towards the front of the truck and orange w/ green an the futhermost rear of the plug.

Which two do I connect with my jumperharness?

Thanks,

John
