Towing with 96

Recently purchased 40ft haulmark edge gooseneck trailer to haul race car and equipment. Truck pulls trailer ok. Has No acceleration, Needs more!truck does ok on flats ad small grades. Truck makes 15-16lbs of boost max! When loaded trailer weighs about 13-14k. I love this truck but need it to do better towing! I really only care about towing power could care less about topend!. I know fuel injected engines not PSDs.
I was thinking about a DP, chip and maybe .84 turbo housing? Will these mods help?
BTW truck gets 8.75-9.25 mpg cruising 65-70.
Would like hear what you all think

Re: Towing with 96

You would be hard pressed to come up with a better combo than the open intake, good downpipe, 4.0 exhaust, loose kitty, mim mods on tranny,(tugger kit, custom Torque Converter and pump mods,Torqueshift tranny cooler), 4 pos or more TWildman chip, and a good set of either Beans or Swamps stage one injectors. I have this setup and have no problems hauling my camper as fast as I want and even in Tony's hot burn I can control my EGT with just a MINOR adjustment in throttle posistion. Of course having someone who knows how to make these work in harmony is "priceless"
Thanks Richter69 (Jon)

Re: Towing with 96

Be prepared...the folks on here may have you racing the truck, rather than the racecar!

The advice above, in giving Dale Isley a call at TYMAR Performance is certainly quality advice!
Many of us on this site got started with the mods he can fix you up with, and he is a straight up guy and as honest as they come, hard to beat prices...and of course lots of free advice on any truck issue you might have.

Try him, you sure won't be sorry.

Dale

Re: Towing with 96

Thanks, I'll give Dale a call Today.
Is 15-16 lbs of boost about right fully loaded to the Floor? Seems low. I have lost the cat. I have a napa 6637 filter and a 02 SD converter. Other than those few thinks truck is stock. Has 193k on it.

Re: Towing with 96

put on an open element intake. I think that is one of the cheepest mods and has the most results.
