Trans Fluid Question

Folks,

I went to buy some trans fluid the other day and it seems Mobil I has changed. The last I bought was Dexron III/Mercon rated. The closest now includes Mercon V along with the other two. Since the current wisdom is that this is not an acceptable fluid, I'm in a quandry. What other synthetic with the correct rating have you had good luck with?

Thanks,
John

Re: Trans Fluid Question

Even Motorcraft Merc V meets Dex 3/Mercon standards. My understanding from a Motorcraft distributor is Merc V is a synthetic or semi synthetic fluid. I've run Merc V in mine with no problems. A friend of mine that owns a tranny shop puts Merc V in all Ford rebuilds. You'll be fine with the Mobile 1.

Re: Trans Fluid Question

not to bring out the meron vs mercon V debate but to a stock e4 4r it is not to be used. It is a long term deal where the problems can occur, but again fords postion is not to use it in these paticular trannsmissions. Why take a chance when the proper stuff can be found and used? I would not put it in mine....its your choice

Redline synthetic ATF is Mercon rated. I use it.

Which ATF for a specific Ford transmission?
