Trans Rebuild ??

Looks like its time to rebuild my tranny 173000 mile. It is setting the Converter slipping code and going into limp mode. I did have it serviced but looks like it is not going to help. I need a good rebuilder in the Dallas, Texas area ??

Also any suggetstions on improving the tranny would be appreciated. I intend to keep my truck for a while longer and this is th first major issue I have had.

Re: Trans Rebuild ??

Depends on what you mean by a "while longer". If that is going to be a long time or pretty much forever, then I would try and get to Brian's Truck Shop in Lead Hill, Arkansas.

If you are not going to keep it as long as I am thinking, then maybe just something to get you by would be best. Maybe just some parts instead of a full rebuild.

PM Richter69 here on TDS and see what he says about which ways you could go. He's not too far from you in good ole Oklahoma. I'm sure he would be able to tell you what would be best for your suituation and maybe even help you out with the service.

Re: Trans Rebuild ??

Thanks for the info. A "while longer" means at least another 100K.
I did reset the PMU this morning and it has not reset the code yet. It does appear that the shift points have changed some. I'm going to drive it some before I decide to go for a rebuild.

Re: Trans Rebuild ??

170,000 is good service life. Richter69, is close in OK as said. If it's an all stock truck or just warmed a bit, try PMing member Tim Miller. He's near Houston and mentioned a local shop. BTS in ARK does fine custom builds for all needs. Good luck.
