Trip Report

Just wanted to drop a line and give yall a trip report.

On December 23rd I recieved my tymar 3x4 Downpipe and my 4 inch exhaust, as well as my open air intake.

Being somewhat nervouse that I wouldnt be able to get it in in time to make my holiday road trip I Preped everything up to the point of cutting off my old DP. UPS guy arrived just in time!

It only took 1 hour to get it all together and in. I used the easyseal exhaust clamps from NAPA, they work Awesome.

ANYWAY!!

4222.2 miles over 8 days. (Tahuya is on the olympic penninsula across from seattle WA.)

Phoenix to Newberg Or - 1351.3 Miles 19h 38 minutes
Newberg to Tahuya Wa - 197 miles 4 hours 12 minutes(same day as above, with a 2hour break to load up all my crap in the back of the truck)
Tahuya to Twin Falls Id- 731.1 ALL DANG DAY! Got tired and stayed the night.
Twin Falls to Denver Co- 719.6 All Dang day again!
Denver to Phoenix (with a stop at pikes peak) 990.8 miles 17h 39 mintues.

Plus some driving here and there at all my stops.

Notes on my freshly installex 3x4 DP and openair intake and 4 inch stright pipe all the way back.
I averaged 17.9 MPG over the entire trip. This is a marked improvement over my stock setup of 12.6 mpg (over a much shorter distance though). I notice power avaliable much sooner in the Torque curve and it never seemed to dissapate through the shifts into OD. I was shocked at the performance over the mountians in Washington (I put 33 miles on the 4x4 system over white pass) and Wyoming. The Torque was absolutly consistant and unwavering in the heavy climbing envrionments (including pikes peak under 12,000 feet, then it smoked like crazy)

I noticed that after about 2-3 hours of driving my truck seemed to achieve a sort of homeostasis and quiet down and smooth out. There were several points where I was shocked at how quiet it was considering it was a diesel. I uderstand that some of this may be because of the 1000 mile stare or just my brain shutting off at some point but I tried to be aware of the performance of my truck over the course of the trip.

Overall im SOLD on diesel power and economy. I will never go back.
Just some thoughts. Your comments are welcome.

Im thinking of going with that new Edge product so I dont have to put gauges in my A pillar. I like the digital stuff too much.

Also anyone know of a stand alone real time engine evaluation program that i can run on my laptop under my maps(GPS) program. maybe somthing with EGT, Xmission Temp, Oil Temp, Coolant Temp, RPMs, Shaft RPMs, or anything cool like that? preferably seral or USB hookups?

Re: Trip Report

Funny you should post 17.9mpg I just drove from Cape Cod Mass to Apatche Junction AZ out side Phoenix last month and the total average for the entire trip was 17.97mpg for just a litte under 6000miles, not bad considering the return trip I had 2200 pounds of stuff in the back. Gotta love the torque in the mountains
