turbo questions

sorry if i'm completely of base but bear w/me i'm just a newbie. i have a used switzer s3 64/14 from a cummins owner that sold his truck and swapped back his stock charger. wanted to know if i could adapt that to my 96. needed your guys opinion. this is after i get a sd hpop and some stageII injectors. but in the meantime i could be working on it.
isn't the oil feed and drain under/through the pedestal? couldn't you just tap them and use a.n. fittings/hoses? why do you need the pedestal wouldn't the piping support the turbo on it's own? how about having a support bracket for the weight, adapter for the flange, and oil feed and drain hoses?

Re: turbo questions

You could technically adapt any turbo to any engine but,

I don't know anything about that turbo, but since the cummins is a 5.9 vs the psds 7.3, the flow characteristics might not be what you want.

The oil feed and return does flow throught the pedastal, but you do not need to use it, you can adapt lines. I would not support the turbo off the pipes, the vibration will crack them, you need to at least support the flange as suggested.

Re: turbo questions

whats the oil holes under the turbo that flow thru the pedestal?
so other than suporting the turbo what is the pedestal for? i got the s300 for next to nothing and they are very upgradable all kinds of intake wheels and housings and exhaust housing i hope there is a good combo for the stroke when i try this. i hope others will chime in with some good suggestions or point out any potential pitfalls.

they are the oil feed and return passage ways for the turbo, and the epb solenoid??????

that makes no sense to me, every turbo can be built with different housings and wheels,

if you are going to change the compressor and turbine housings, the compressor wheel and turbine shaft, it doesn't matter if you got the turbo for free, if you have to buy all the other parts to make "a good combo",

unless you got all those other parts for free?

the only thing you will be using from the turbo is the chra, might as well just buy a turbo properly configured.

Re: turbo questions

i think they call it the qssp or something turbo and it is just a modded s300 the thing is that the ones modded for a cummins have a rather small borg warner exhaust housing and the 7.3 needs a bigger housing other tnan that the s300 flows about the same as an h2e
