Water pump? Please help!

First off, this is a great site which I found today. This is my first post and I have already used the search feature (I know that on some sites asking a question that has been answered several times in the past is frowned upon)

I have not yet filled out my profile but I run a '96, 5spd, 4x4 PSD. It is both my daily driver and my work/hunting truck.

My water pump pumped its last pump yesterday and I am in need of replacement quickly.

Curiosity got the better of me and I wanted to know if the older (88-93 or 94-95) pumps are a direct replacement for ours. If I am not mistaken, the older ones have a 205* thermostat instead of the 198*.

What I found in my search was a very interesting IH pump replacement which would be great. However, time constraints and the fact that it appears to be a pretty involved mod, limit my ability to take on such a project.

So, am I on the right track? If I want a cheap easy replacement with a 205* T-stat, is one of the older pumps a direct fit?

Thanks for the help,

Steve

You can also stick with your current style waterpump and get a 203* thermostat from these guys: DIESELSITE 203* Thermostat

Either that or get a 95 pump that uses a shortneck thermostat and get a 203* t-stat from your local parts place. Which ever you do just make sure you use the proper length thermostat that fits the pump. RD97's link above has some good info about the longneck vs shortneck thermostat.

95 pump is cake... IH pump is cool with the filter and all but how many powerstrokes have we really seen falling off the face of the earth without it. if you had the time/money/desire i'd do the IH... if not I think I got my 95 pump, barb & 205* stat at autozone pretty cheap. that was a few years ago though.

Aloha Steve-
Welcome to the site. I have just gone through this same situation and the folks here helped me out greatly! I went with this Airtek water-pump:
eBay Motors: 7.3 POWERSTROKE FORD DIESEL WATER PUMP NEW AW4114 (item 280196661663 end time Feb-28-08 14:00:31 PST)
Instead of purchasing it through their ebay website I called the number on the auction and spoke someone live that was great! And he quoted me half the cost for 2nd Day air from what the ebay auction site listed. The pump got here in 2 days! Really good kit and works great with the 203 t-stat that I purchased earlier from diesel site. Also, if you are interested in doing a coolant filter setup I would look at Tymar's Coolant Filter Kit. Easy to install and a great product with great customer service. Hope this helps.
Mahalo,
Kyle
